I’ll will be taking out my Ruger 10/22 for my first NRL 22 match tomorrow. As it sits today: Hogue Stock, Burris AR 22 1-7 scope, Tacsol SBX bull barrel, and a Harris bi-pod. I have some Remington .22 Thunderbolt in 40 grain at 1255 FPS I practiced with and will bring for the match. I feel pretty good under 100 yards, but generally have no experience in this realm. My plan is to observe, shoot, and have fun. Advice welcome! Attached File |

I run a small NRL22 match every month, about 10 shooters. It’s a blast. I tell folks it’s shooting tiny targets from shitty positions with a time limit. Know your door, and look over the course of fire ahead of time. 22 Lima Romeo and Jonathan Ocala ( an ARF member ) put out monthly YouTube videos running through the course with tips on how to shoot it. It’s a lot of fun, and not as equipment intensive as some of the other shooting sports. |

Have fun, do a lot observing, when not shooting. Tomorrow evening when you're done, check out this rabbit hole. Pursuit of accuracy ETA Both Magpul, and Titan, are good stocks, KRG, and a host of chassis are available if you want to go that route. Ammo, you can go to Creedmor and put together a order of different brand to find out what works in your rifle. |

How’d it go? You want to shoot subs. Bullets get really unstable when they go transonic. SK Match is a good place to start. Tac-22 is a cheaper but decent option. If you really get into it, I’d get rid of the semi and go with a Bergara B14R with a steel barrel and an MDT XRS chassis. |

Bringing this thread back from the dead- I just signed up for my first NRL22X match. Anyone try these out? Sounds like it may be a little more like NRL Hunter just with 22s? I also just shot my first NRL Hunter match. It was a hell of fun weekend and I can't wait to do another. I did pretty well as well as learned a TON. For the NRL 22X match, Ive got 3 options for a rifle. 1- Savage MkII FVSR in a Tacticool stock. 2- 10/22 in a TandemKross ManticoreX "chassis" 1 or 2 will be topped with a FFP scope w/ adjustable paralax and such. I have good dope on these rifles out to 300. Match says 210 yds max target range. 3- Some flavor of Vudoo 22. my boss offered it up. No idea what it is beyond the manufacturer. Anyone got advice or helpful hints? |

Not really my thing as it turns out, contorting shooting positions under time and trying to remember complex corses of fire was not entertaining to me. Some positions I could not even get on the scope to shoot and ran out of time. I don’t have time to watch hours of video of the course prior and prep course cards of the stages. The people were cool and helpful though, even loaning bags for me to try etc… |

Anyone got advice or helpful hints? -Use whichever rifle shoots tighter groups at 50 yards. Vudoo is a tier 1 rifle so it'll be easier to shoot. Sub sonic ammo is very important. CCI SV is great, but you'll see the velocity differences from 100 yards and beyond. ELEY Match and SK red or LR match are very good. -Support bags make a huge difference to get steady. Most people will let you borrow theirs at matches. -it's very important you have a ballistic calculator and know your velocity and scope height over bore. Know how to use a christmas tree retlicle. -range all the targets before the match so you have good data for your ballistics calculator. i.e 200 vs. 205 yards could be ≈5" difference. -follow through with each shot so you can make wind and holdover correction. -have fun!! |
