I've been back shooting pistol matches after a very long hiatus. Almost 20 years. Mostly just IDPA and outlaw steel matches they do around here. This isn't a complaint really just a when did this become common. Way back when it seemed to be that most had a "shoot as fast as you can accurately hit" school of thought. I remember a handful who would fly through a CoF and take their penalties, not many though. Now it seems to be more that the latter is more common. Not saying it's wrong. But was there a big shift to that school of thought? I haven't seen any of them win, locally anyway, so it doesn't seem to effectiven in my opinion. |

It really depends on the game. I think a lot of IPSC folks known to do that have move onto the steel and IDPA matches. Seeing someone good at it run a steel challenge is pretty neat. |

When I was shooting IDPA and USPSA the idea was, as you said, shoot as fast as you can while being accurate. That was then and the same logic applied to all forms of shooting. These days dumping a 30-round mag sa fast as you can pull the trigger at 15 yards and putting at least 10 hits on a 24" target is good enough. The times they have changed apparently. My advice: Your philosophy is correct. Let them waste time doing things their way. |

Shooters are following the prize money. Shooting blazing fast and taking a couple of "Charlies" was the modus if you won a gun or big cash. As other matches with money prizes sprang up (with fewer shooters) many USPSA gunners tried to snag a Bianchi Cup and Steel Challenge purse. Shoot as fast as you can hit and you take the trophy and dollars. |

I guess so. Maybe at a regional or national match it pays off. Locally these guys don't do well with that method. Middle to end of the pack generally. Now their raw times are better than us by 3-5 seconds. But we are only down 0-5 for the entire match as opposed to their 20 plus. I've seen some guys down 50-60 for an entire match! I was truly blown away seeing that. I do it to have fun. Not looking to go pro, not good enough and too old. So I'll still to shooting as fast as I can while making Alphas/0's. |
