| I am looking to either put together or buy a complete rifle length upper. I have a few must haves - 1/8 twist wylde 18", adjustable gas block, low profile key mod with top picatinny rail, light weight bolt carrier. I have never built an upper so I have been looking at Odin, JP, and TTI, aeroprecision, strongside, but either a bit too $$ or slightly different specs. Anyone have a prebuilt upper to recommend? If you recommend building, any good resources? I have been on brownells and youtube and they make it look easy. For some reason that makes me think it cannot be easy. LOL. TIA. |

Another thing I've learned is that don't get too fixated on sheer accuracy. 3 gun as you know is quick and dirty. "Any two will do" or an A zone hit on paper targets and move on. The last match I was at guys were hitting tiny plates with standard mil-spec rifles at 100 yards. As far as building an upper, it's retarded easy. I built a new 10.3" 3-gun upper this morning and it took me less than 10 minutes and I was working slow. Building an AR = Legos. You won't have any issues unless you're just not mechanically inclined or don't have the proper tools. |

My current go-to stick has a 15” Stretch Precision barrel. Stretch did a small run of 15” barrels and eventually clearanced them out. I snagged one for pretty cheap considering how much they were new.
I use an adjustable gas block, lightweight BCG, a Taccom lightweight buffer setup, and an SJC Titan brake. All that makes for a VERY flat shooting rifle with almost no recoil that would disrupt any red dot or reticle. PS: Before the legal beagles chime in, yes my lower is stamped. |

I really like my 14.5" amarillite 3 gun upper. Light, quick and shoots 55 grain "el cheapo" ammo spot on. I've had no problems hitting targets at 4-500 yards. I know a lot of guys like 18" rifles but at many 3 gun matches a longer rifle can get in the way. +87 for 1-8 with a wylde chamber... its the only way to go. A good muzzle break, and an adjustable gas system are also necessities. If you turn the gas down and trim your buffer spring you can get to 22lr type recoil. Every once in a blue moon PSA will offer a 16" stainless 1-8 upper, I picked up 2 for around $250 bucks a piece last time I saw them.. I had to remove a front site and add a free float hand guard but both are honest 1 to 3/4 moa rifles with fiochi 223a. |
