Where are you guys engraving your lowers? I plan on rattle canning this lower after it's engraved so I'm guessing it'll have to be on a spot that's not painted so it doesn't get covered up? Is inside the magwell still a good place or should I just engrave the front of the magwell and leave that area unpainted. |
| If you’re spraying on paint thick enough to fill in your engraving, it’s probably thick enough that it’s going to cover up your serial number and other info too. Unless you use some really thick paint, I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. Of course the easiest answer is to not engrave, either by being one of the correct plaintiff groups in the recent injunction, or simply waiting to build your SBR to see if they publish the rule change that eliminates the engraving requirement. |

If you are a covered party in the ruling, you may be able to make your own SBR with no additional engraving. (See this thread if you have been living under a rock: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Federal-Court-Strikes-Down-NFA-Registration-on-untaxed-firearms/5-2853946/) Also, there is a proposed rule (AA70) by the ATF that will remove the additional engraving requirement, although that rule has not been finalized/published yet. This proposed rule was open for public comments from around May 6 to around July 6. So, it may likely become finalized/published very soon. |

I have had it done on the magazine well inside lip or inside the trigger guard around the area where the trigger protrudes. Either is fine for me. Not sure I care either way. They are out of the way and not obnoxious. I also have a pistol brace lower with no additional engravings that was Form 1ed under that rule. Gotta admit I do like that. Anyone remember when all the doomers were telling us not to register? It was OK to pay to register one but accepting the free registration was treason on the forum back then lol. |
