| I have a savage 110 in 243. I would like to have a threaded and heavier barrel. Made 243,6 creed, or 308 have not decided yet. I already have a 6.5 creed and 308 ar10. Is x caliber barrels any good for the price around $400 or should I look elsewhere? |

I was in somewhat of the same boat about a year ago. I was taking my model 110 7mm rem mag nd changing it out to a 7mm prc. I looked at a few different barrels, x-caliber being one of them, and for the price its not bad. What made me question it was the huge swing in reviews I found for it. It was either "the greatest barrel ever" or " shot like crap and returned" Me personally I ended up ordering from James at Northland shooters supply. Super good guy, very knowledgeable and helped me with my questions. I ended up with a shilen select match. I wanna say it was around $500 for the barrel (only thing I added was the threaded end) as well as the misc stuff that goes with it (barrel nut, dhank, ect). |

I have 4 of their barrels on rifles and have been very happy with them. Fit/finish and machine work was top notch. I have a 26in 1in bull barrel in 308 on a savage 110 and it shoots bug holes. I have a 24in medium profile (.850 dia) in 223 wydle in a savage 110 and it too shoots bug holes. I have a 20in heavy barrel in a DMR style AR15. Very accurate, very happy with it. I have a 16in SPR contour in a AR carbine. Mid gas, and I had it diamond fluted for extra looks. It too has been great. All bored scoped perfectly. All clean easy and have no issues with fouling. I can not say the same with shilen. I have had two of their barrels and they both grabbed copper like it was trying to hold onto it for dear life. One to the point it was galling. I will never own another shilen. I also just got a 28in 300WM 1-9 twist barrel for another savage 110 build, but I have not had a chance to install it yet. Just a couple weeks ago I ordered a contoured blank from them for another project rifle. All the savage barrels are their pre fits and they all fit and headspaced with no issue. The AR barrels were their complete drop in barrels and again fit perfectly. I also like their ordering system and how you can configure you barrel super easy. |
