Given the new tax changes, are there likely to be more 'parts' (not illegal kits) suppliers popping up domestically? I'd anticipate yes... |

Of course they did, that's what they do  So long as you're not selling the jigs to go along with the parts, and nothing is center marked, I don't think the ATF is going to see an issue. |

They would contract out to a machine shop to have them made. Sure buying a 50k CNC lathe means you need to sell a lot of parts to cover the cost. But you could contact a machine shop and say hey make me 500 of these when you have a chance and are not busy. The machine shop might even give you a discount just to keep the machines running between normal projects. The real problem is you need to make a few hundred pieces and then it takes a year to sell them all. The small runs of 100 from good designers did sell out quick, but they normally announced the run before it happened and did the group buy sort of thing with them. There are a few places left to get this stuff, most them run from the solvent trap name. Most even sell ( or at least offer ) other items that are completely unrelated. As for $400, it is 100% possible to make a decent can from parts for between 3-400 from one place that I wont name. |

Used to be a quality manager and Quality engineer in a few manufacturing plants (and a few job shops). Most had their own paint / finishing departments too. you could easily make and sell them cheap. I had a friend that worked at place that farmed out a a big name threaded suppressor mount. the lath and bar feeder went burr$$$$ spitting them on for pennies probably. Aluminum 22 cans could be made at a job shop for probably less than $25 in quantity. Job shops could make parts so cheap and quick it's crazy. I was sad to see that Hipoint is trying to sell theirs too high. I just got a Cmmg 22 can ant it was $199 plus transfer / shipping for like $280 It was stainless but I still felt like I over paid (I have form 1 a lot) When I bought it I though "no tax" but forgot about shipping and transfer. even that you have a run to make the tubes, front cap, rear cap, and baffles. engraving, coating on baffles ,and then paint for tube/ caps. It does add up A complete lower is more complex though to MFG and those sell for about $159 at palmetto....they could do a suppressor cheap I bet For every new form 1 I had new tooling (like to try new things) material, and engraving and it would usually push me to around $150 mark with bulk being the engraving and tooling Now if you had all the tooling (would be in quote), material, you just spit them out cheap. At this one job shop we use to make 100% products that we sold for like $20 ea in volume that were sold for over $100 ( I think more like $200). that product was just one of thousands we would short run quickly. Yea all these new startup companies probably have to pay off equipment |
