When I saw this in a bargain bin, a few things stuck out. - I remember seeing a vintage cone looking optic like this in an old pic, I can't remember if it was in the context of a FAL. - It seems to be more carefully manufactured than I'd expect a copy of something to be, especially because of the pathetic tube. That's a lot of mods to a topcover. Why copy it, but it could indeed be early era Chinese junk. --- Note the projection in a stamped relief at the front, I guess to secure a tight fit? It's not a screw. --- Note the arrow on the front nut for elevation, and windage presumably at the rear. --- The coned thing is a protector, a very small tube is inside. --- The 90 degree bent out piece at the rear above the topcover and below the cone (you just see the edge) appears to be an offset BUIS, there is a hole in it. A matching offset front would be needed. Maybe a kluge of a grenade sight?  The best I could do to get a reticle pic, apologies for size. it's not timed right and seems to have spun a little. I wonder if this can be adjusted or if it's permanent damage. Seems to go from about 5:45 to 11:45  Thoughts? |

It certainly has a familiar appearance from a picture in an old book or maybe online. I have seen it but I have no idea what model or nation tried that. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

The FAL for British Troop Trials in 1954: X8E1 & X8E2 How it ended up being in a central VA gun shop in a bin surrounded by 10/22 rails and moldy holsters would be an interesting story. |
