Obviously, my poor man's SBR wears a poor mans red dot, a SIG Romeo5. For a rifle I probably won't be running around in a post apocalyptic wasteland with, but for use in the house, vacation, casual range trips, etc., should be just fine, right?
But if you were building a heavier duty SBR, something that might get used a bit more, maybe dynamic matches/training, what would you prefer for a short barrel? Would you chose something with no magnification, lightweight, or something different? I might be doing something different in the future, if things pan out, so I have some interest on what has proven to work for those of you really experienced with SBRs. Just curious what you think, that's all, thank you for your replies. |

| I’m not sure if I have enough time behind them to say they are my favorite, but I have a 1.5x ACOG on my 11.5” and a 4x ACOG on my 12.5”. Very recent purchases too so time will tell, but the Trijicon ACOG is a solid, proven platform. I have astigmatism so aside from these and something with an etched reticle, my options are limited. I’ve love to be able to use an EOTech but alas, I can’t. |

I must be the only guy who likes the H2, because I don't see it mentioned often. I don't have night vision or plans to buy any, so I'd rather get right to the Red Dot settings instead of having to scroll through four useless settings every time I turn it on. Of course, that wouldn't be an issue if I just left it on, but I usually don't. And the batteries last forever. |

Whew, some of those prices, whew! Well, I can't complain, I DID ask!  I have to throw out that once upon a time I had a EOTech, the AA battery model. Yes, that's mounted on a CzechpointUSA vz-58. It lasted about two months under range only use.  The company refused to do anything, so I swore of that brand for life, never looked back. I do thank you for you for the comments, very educational! |

I do thank you for you for the comments, very educational! I’ve got stuff from PA, Vortex, Holosun, and Eotech on SBRs. The only one I’ve had issues with is the Eotech lol Like anything else it really just depends on what’s important to you. Stuff like overall size, reticle, weight, etc. I like the ACSS CQB reticle, so my multiple Primary Arms with them will naturally be my favorites. |

Well, this fat old man took out the SBR today for my standard "test", and yes, it's stupid, but it's what I do. If I can consistently keep a rifle on a 3/4 steel target at 100 yards from a standing position, then it will do for defense. Why? Because I ain't no rifleman, and I am not going to be making hits at 500 yards unless I am calling in an air strike. So, the two rifles I used for this, the BABAR and just for grins and giggles, the Heritage/Rossi 92 in .357 Mag. Note the helpful red arrow to show the white painted steel. Attached File First was the SBR, and even being that horrible PSA garbage that everyone tells me is going to get me killed...it worked just fine. I missed once. I figured that was good enough. Attached File Not the greatest grouping, of course, but for a fat lazy ex-squid, I guess it will have to do. Attached File That made me cocky, so I tried the Heritage. Attached File Yeah...no. Missed a LOT. NOT showing that target. Good thing Cowboy Action targets are so close! So, I think the SBR is right where I want it to be and will fit the role I selected for it perfectly. Thank you to all who helped me along this off-beat journey. |

Exps2-0 on one of my issued M4v7s.. Wasn't on the team when they chose the package or I would've pushed for 3s for passive NV use. Amongst another.. 4-500ish FN 11.5s we pushed a mix of Duty RDS' and Holosun 515s out. Still quite a few Pros and CompM4s still in the wild. The SWATy-cats are running MRO's on their v7s. Romeo5s still running on the Jails CRT less lethal guns but due to replace them at some point. Duty RDS on my personal Mk18. |

| Four rifles 11.5" and under. On them I have an ACOG TA44 green, PA SLx 1X Prism green, Delta Stryker 1-6x with a Holosun HS407K-X2 as backup and the fourth has a SIG ROMEO4XT-PRO. I've been through many optics on these rifles and these are the ones I ended up sticking with and am happy with. Astigmatism played a key role in each decision. In my early 50's I had to say goodbye to my beloved Aimponts and EO-Techs. |

How's that Holosun you mentioned? |
