Back in the winter, I purchased a LH 308 American Predator. The main reason was I saw those who convert it over to AICS mags with a kit from Ruger parts. I got the rifle and called parts with the serial number. I was told their kit does not fit LH, even though I have seen them in videos where the conversions were done successfully. We went back and forth over it and I was told they could not sell me a RH either. SO I got off the call pissed. I waited a few days and called back and got a supervisor. I was told the same thing. Sorry, too bad. Last month I was able to get a dealer to call and order one for me. They were told the same thing, it wont work on LH. Since I have done some of my own gunsmithing, including mag well work, I was willing to take a $27 chance that I could make the one they sell work on my LH. So the dealer got me the one they sell and guess what………. IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!! Installed just like the ones in the videos I have seen for RH. No modifications. I got a Magpul 5 round mag and it fits (tight) and cycles perfectly. Why would they do this? Is the LH missing some sort of legal certification? Puzzled!! |
| I called to complain about the 4 round rotary magazines for the right handed version and they sent me two replacements that were conventional feeding magazines (not rotary). The straight magazines worked great but during the call I asked about the conversion kit to the magazines you referenced. Was told that it would not work for my serial number. I wonder if it would work for mine. |

Ruger has a long history of deciding which products won’t be sold directly to which customers ‘cuz reasons. It would be a simple thing to have you consent in an email to “no returns” because you are willingly buying a product they tell you won’t fit. My guess is someone called legal and then legal told them it was a lot of risk for Ruger to take for $15 in ROI. We do live in a litigious society in love with fake news. “Muh RH conversion caused a k@boom in my LH action and Ruger knew what I was planning to do with it when I ordered it!” They’re going to forgo a $27 direct sale to avoid that. And they know you’re going to go do it anyways. And they know they won’t know when your dealer friend orders it for you specifically, so they have plausible deniability and still sold that unit anyway. They got their cake and ate it too. Things can look kooky until you unpack it a little. |

On the flip side, many years ago I had a P89 9mm. It kept jamming. I sent it in, and when they sent it back, it ran like a champ! No issues at all. Also, a few years ago I had a Mini30 that shot like crap. Everyone talked about “barrel whip”. So I took a set of scope rings, mounted them on the barrel up side down, on the bottom side. I used the tube of a mini mag light and mounted them in the rings. This stiffened up the barrel and it shot sub 1” at 50 yards, which for me was a huge improvement . |
