Lgs has a nice looking M1 tanker in the rack. The stock is in real nice shape and it's one of those with the nicely cut and shaped forward handguard. It's a 3.1 million Springfield receiver so that's at least GI. It's wearing an Arlington Ord .308 barrel. The tag calls it an "M1A" priced at $1200. It ain't with that!  This shop isn't real strong on firearms knowledge. Their baliwack is archery. So sometimes you can come up with a real deal. I might offer $750 in 6 or 8 weeks if it's still there. But maybe not. I need such a thing like l need a hole in the head, but it might be fun to play with. If it works right. That'll be the gamble. |

| Its likely one of those Arlington Ordnance phoobies and may be full of trouble. If you can get it for around 500 to 600, the usgi reciever would be almost worth that if its not a rewielded or reclaimed receiver. To anyone who reads this, there is no such thing as a REAL M1 Tanker. It was never issued in that shortened configuration to USGI troops or tank crews. The name is just a sales scam concocted years ago by some less than forthright gunsmiths. |

It's been years since I've really been up on the tanker conversions and couldn't remember if any specific brands were the real problem children. Like l said in the op, I'll let it sit for several weeks and might toss out a lowball offer. Might. |

I've not heard anything bad about one of Shuff's conversons, haven't heard anything good about any of the others. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do, but apparently it is. Any chance the LGS would let you test it for function before purchase? |

Current .fed law, or fatf ruling, is that even if the original owner were to pick it up and take possession again HE wood have to pass a nics check on his own gun! So doubtful l could talk the owner into a range session with it. Could be a moot point, anyways. The day l saw the tanker is the day l bought a line new Marlin 783 .22 mag bolt action. When l went in 3 days later there's a S&W 610 in the show case. A 4" 10mm revolver, priced at $979. If it suits there too long, a couple months, I'll toss out $725-$750 and see what happens. Better chance it'll be more trouble free. Oh, and no Hillary hope either. |
