I’ve been looking for an APC for a while. I know these occasionally come up for sale at astronomical prices. I found one recently for $6900.  I don’t think these are made anymore so prices aren’t going down. While it would be hard to stomach $6900, thinking it may be time to put up, or shut up! Every time I’ve been on the fence about a gun purchase and I don’t act, I end up regretting it.

I'm not sure that the APCs are discontinued (the 16" ACC definitely is), but that's also not a horrible price if shipping/tax is included. MSRP is like $6.1, and for some, after tax and shipping it's like $6.5, so $6.9 is not a big premium, especially if you want one now. @Jack_L might be able to confirm if further APC runs are planned to fill backorders or current orders.

According to them, they still have a few more to make. MSRP is about $6,100 so that's not a *terrible* price, but if you don't have $7k burning a hole in your pocket then I would just wait it out. The SR-25K3 is going to have a dimpled barrel in case that helps convince you to wait.

Unless you're dying for the exact APC setup, some of the new line up stuff will be worth the wait in my opinion. New lowers, URX6s, and depending on the selection, dimples.

Also, I have a feeling when the new lineup comes out you'll see some of the APCs go up for sale on the used market. But that's just my opinion.

I personally would wait, as I'd want those dimples.

Sounds like the new SR-25 models will be worth the wait. The million dollar question is, when will these be released and how to get one before they are all sold out. Seems like the demand is so high that they will be gone instantly.  If you are not watching your inbox or monitoring social media constantly, it will be easy to miss these I'm guessing.

I would go ahead and buy it. Only $800 more than retail and you have it, shoot it and enjoy it. Put your name on the lists for some of the new models and set some money aside to buy one of those too. After having both if you feel the need, sell one during a drought of them and you will recover most of your funds back. Remember that tomorrow is never guaranteed and enjoy life some.

I have been debating whether to respond because this stuff is so subjective.  I think you need to look at the barrel profile, weight etc. and how that impacts what you are planning to do with it.  I have a few SR25s (legacy match, solid M110 clone etc.).  Once I get past the hype etc. my fav shooter is an SR25 EC with a MAMS.  Compact like my 16"  ACC but accurate too (but not as light).  Yeah the EC might not have a chrome lined barrel but the APC you want doesn't either.  It also does not have a slim profile barrel or dimpling but for me the weight of the fuller profile barrel and the URX 2 make the gun such a pleasure to shoot. Less felt recoil than an AK.  The APC also has a fuller profile barrel but the light weight handguard.  To me its all part of the equation.

I have a left over lower that needs an upper and I have been debating between an 14.5 ACC and 16" APC upper but I am leaning towards the 16" APC based on what I actually like to shoot.  Dont get me wrong, the legacy SR25 and the M110 clone are great shooters but they are heavy and big.  For reference, I am coming from original .308 experience with M1A/HK91/FAL platforms that kick hard.  The KAC stuff simply does not relatively speaking but I do think you need to figure what matters to you in terms of the rest of the metrics.

If you like the APC barrel profile and understand you are getting a slightly heavier gun with all the pluses and minuses that entails, than I think you should get it because with KAC, if you snooze you lose.   Simply as that.  If not, wait for what comes next and hope you can get it with all the bs games that get played with new KAC releases.  Good luck.

Exactly, that's what I'm looking forward to!

After everyone decided keymod's were no longer cool, I picked up three really nice keymod APR's for thousands off the going price. This may be the next opportunity!

The new stuff looks interesting but it really all comes down to availability.  When is the new stuff going to hit the market, and just because it hits the market, that doesn't mean you will be able to snag one as most KAC stuff goes out of stock instantly to be flipped on various boards.

Are they planning on doing large frame uppers for the new stuff?

In this lies the problem.

Say the new stuff gets released 9 months down the road, you miss the first batch and not interested in paying premium on top of a premium, and the next batch does not hit for another 4 to 6 months and nobody is willing to take orders, you may be realistically looking at years before you sniff a new rifle.  Unless you live in those various boards, it's not happening, at least for the foreseeable future.

We'll see. It took me years to finish my 6.5 22" build which I just completed. The new flow through suppressors have been widely available which is good. They're a great product which I'm recommending in my classes, including to those without a Knight's gun. If the new uppers are anywhere near that volume, we'll be in good shape. If Knight's would take orders for the uppers and ship directly, it would put the flippers out of business. In my case, I'd be willing to prepay a deposit or the amount in full, in advance.

I'm hopeful 2025 will be the end of the drought.

Are you goin to go out and shoot it this summer? Or let it sit in the safe. We can barley get sr15 lowers at this point and it's been like this for 3 years

Yes, last weekend I completed the labradar data collection on factory 140gr Bergers & 140gr Ammo Inc cartridges, a tall tracking test to validate the scope installation, and zeroing. This weekend, the plan is to stretch the legs and see how the drop data ties at various distances out to 1,000 yards. The plan this year is to take it out once a month to get the data memorized, and improve my wind call skills. All my equipment gets used, and I spend more money on ammo & training each year than anything else gun related. This now completes my functional set of equipment. Fortunately, I was able to pick up all the SR-15's I wanted, and an SR-30 before things dried up. In 2020, Brownell's even had them in stock. Good luck on finding what you want, I'm hopeful 2025 will be the end of the drought. These are amazing guns.

Can’t 3D print a whole upper, you’ll never see volume like that IMO.

Agreed, which I why I said "anywhere near". In 2020 stuff was available, and it would be on the shelf for days before being sold. We just need to get back to around those numbers+, to account for the growth in ownership. The market opportunity to make money certainly exists. Right now, those sales are lost to Geisselle, Daniel Defense, etc.

Personally I’d buy the APC.  Have it dimpled by Nefarious and enjoy the hell out of it.  I personally prefer the Urx 4 to the 6, and the urx 2 and 3.1 above the 4.  Maybe do a Urx 2 or 3.1 swap if you like that sort of thing as well.

The APC can take the deep gorgeous dimples.  The dimples on my 22 inch 6.5 are not nearly as awesome or sexy as the legacy guns I have.

You can probably do all of that, for the premium you will end up paying when the new guns drop should you not be one of the first lucky orders.

Wishing you the best with your decision regardless!
