This will be my very first muzzleloader. Is there a quality scope rail that will fit this? I found the MZ1921, but its really cheap and some reviews don't look reassuring. I plan to mount a S&B Zenith to it. Also, which bullets are recommended? For deer out to 150 yrds--ish. Are solid coppers too hard for MLing? AAAAANd any tips on cleaning and anything else would be great. |

Pretty sure those “Firestick” charges are loaded with Hodgdon triple 8 propellant which looks like it’s a copy of Blackhorn 209 powder. If that’s true cleaning shouldn’t be a big deal as it’s pretty clean and non corrosive. I shoot BH209 a lot and generally just swab the bore a few times with rubbing alcohol on a patch and then an oiled patch after it’s dried. As far as copper bullets I’d recommend just hit the easy button and use a .45 bullet in a sabot assuming it’s 50 caliber. There’s folks using full bore sized copper / copper jacketed bullets in muzzleloaders but they generally require precise sizing. Only people I’ve known IRL who do it shoot custom rifles using smokeless powder where the pressures involved would blow a sabot apart. |
