Curious if anyone has had a titanium tube crack before along the engraving. Think it’s an old SDTA body but has less 200 rounds of 300 blk out through it. I saw it by total accident and got lucky it’s on a gun I haven’t shot in years. Also, do any websites still sell the D-cell suppressor body? |

It's a known issue when laser engraving Ti. Either too deep an engraving and/or HAZ wasn't properly purged when doing so. Do a search and you'll see plenty of posts on this topic. Just wait till the end of the year and file for a free form1 for new tube. |
| Just had a Ti tube laser engraved. I did not know about the controversy. I asked the engraver (a popular common outfit) if any of their customers had a tube open up, and they had not heard of it. The engraving looks about .005" deep and very well done and extremely professional. If they did shallow passes and managed the heat with a fiber laser, probably ok. Time will tell. If I did it over, I would have looked into etching or mechanical means so no worries. |
