| I have a three screw Blackhawk that the paint is badly chipped and worn on. I don't mind the wear on the rest of the revolver but for some reason the grip really bothers me. It seems to be some kind of alloy. My first thought was to bead blast it but I'm not so sure that'll wreck the grip frame. Any help is appreciated. |

I had one like this on a more modern Blackhawk and I soaked it with Citristrip (probably a couple of times for anywhere from a few hours to overnight). I was able to get most of it off with a putty knife and didn’t obsess about the inside nooks and crannies. I then had to file and sand out some dings, and I also reshaped it to be somewhat more Colt-like. I went up to 400 grit or so and left it in the bright. I think a bead blast might work but obviously didn’t try it. It’s aluminum, so if you don’t want it to tarnish some finish might be warranted. You could probably have it Cerakoted or anodized. |
