I have one of the Cerakote models and I’d like to do a phosphate finish on it, I realize that you can now buy a phosphate Tisas but I don’t like the location of the import marks on them so I’d rather refinish mine. I’ve done some manganese phosphate before so I know what I’m doing as far as the process but I’ve never done anything other than a lower parts kit so I want to make sure I don’t mess anything up. Should I blast with sand, or something else, or maybe avoid blasting altogether and strip it chemically? If I do blast it, is there anything that I should avoid blasting (aside from the bore, obviously)? |

| I'd be blasting with a 200+ grit aluminum oxide, not sand. Probably finer. You just want to remove the cerakote or whatever it is and not alter the underlying metal. |

Looks like that stuff is pretty spendy, by the time I get all the materials I probably could’ve just sent it to someone for a refinish. Is there a go to person for that kind of work? I don’t think John Thomas at Retro Arms Works has an FFL. ETA: He does have an FFL, I’ll have to contact him. ETA2: He’s currently not taking that kind of work. |
