Tavor 7? (Page 1 of 2)

| Google, FB There's not much talk about the Tavor in 7.62. When you do find something there's only whining about recoil, MOA at 2" or a tad worse along with the cost of ammo. Is this where we're at? I'm looking at buying one now that the price has dropped for the next month or so. |
|
I'm happy with mine. Full disclosure, I stole it for $800 NIB from a local who got it in part of a big trade. MOA, within reason, doesn't mean shit to me. It can keep a 25 rd mag of any of my surplus or go to Hornady 155 TAP in the upper chest of a silhouette at 300, or in the death triangle of the head of my hostage taker targets at 50. (1.5 x 4 Leupold SPR scope under square range conditions using a Grip pod) It has 16 inch barrel ballistics and is shorter than all my AR based 308's, even the 10 inch barrel one. Hasn't malfunctioned once. Super easy field strip and cleaning. Because of the length, it's going to be my dedicated suppressed rifle. Spare parts being hard to get is the only fly in the ointment as far as I am concerned. Picture was taken as soon as I got home with it. It now wears the mentioned scope in a GG&G quick detach AccuCam mount, Grip pod, Vickers adj. sling, Troy FBUIS Attached File |

Its a 308 Bullpup. Accuracy is only as good as the person shooting for groups..3? 5? 10? What ammo did they use? Only Milspec 147? Match 168? Match 175? I havent found a bullpup that cant shoot very well if I put the time behind it. Having a tone of fun with the Desert Tech and Keltec 308s.The IWI in next on my list |
|
The accuracy complaints are mostly regurgitation from issues with the earliest ones. Mine was 1 MOA with match ammo, and 2-2.5 MOA with non-match when I tested it with 5 shot groups. Perfectly acceptable IMO. Recoil on it isnt bad either. Some people say they have issues with hard primer ammo. I can't speak to that as I don't recall shooting much of any surplus or anything through mine. |
|
-under 100 yard gun with a red dot. - you can put a full size scope or LPVO but why? its a bullpup. -fun to shoot. - can shoot one handed. did you hear what I said, one handed. what else can you shoot thats a semi auto in 308 one handed? -get it. -dont think twice. |

| I don't know., it seems pretty sad. No one talks shit about the 7 online except mostly nit picking. IWI will probably discontinue it as FN did with their FS2000. What happens next? I want one, give me one, here's my money. Double the money. The FS2000 is a Tuna. Take my 3K+ when I could have purchased one for $1600.00 back when is was labelled a Tuna. |

Compact and powerful the Tavor 7 is. Back end heavy without a suppressor. With a suppressor it's perfectly balanced. Doesn't feel so heavy when balanced. At 9 pounds with nothing on it, it can get over 10 pounds quickly. The suppressor gas setting works well. Very reliable so far. Accuracy is good enough for me. Not a match grade sniper rifle, but will get the job done for sure. Definitely one of my top favorites for a 308 semi-auto. If you need serious firepower in a compact package it's tough to beat. |

I have one Armalite AR10 with a 16" bbl that's a good shooter. " As long as you use an optic with some eye relief " Yeah, it hurt when I put an Acog on it. Five Steyr Augs, two being Pre-ban. One TPD clone from Kent back in the day. Several AR-15's from only Colt and Bushmaster when Bushmaster was manufactured up in Maine. Two Colt's in 9mm. Those Colt's in 9mm are the best kept secret. I've had only one or two FTF with both of my HK 94's and my latest SP5 ( hand-loads ) though , I have never once had a malfunction with those two Colts in 9mm no matter what I filled the magazines with. I've been shooting those two since the mid 2000's. I was tossing around something in 7.62 to play with. I have enough stuff in 5.56. The Springfield Socom or the Tavor 7. I was just wondering why the Tavor 7 seems to be lacking in sales, if there was issues with it. |

I love my Tavor 7. It’s been 100% reliable with everything from South African Surp to new Hornady and federal. Accuracy is fine it’s no FN-SPR but I didn’t buy it to be. It’ll shoot comparably to my AR10 and is far more compact. I run a VCOG on mine seems like a LPVO is a good match. I agree suppressor helps balance and is the reason I went 16” instead of 20” As a M1A guy if your buying one don’t get the socom. You’ll end up hating the brake and a new gas lock to swap it to a regular threaded muzzle device will cost an additional $150 plus whatever new device you go with. |

I had a Tavor 7 for awhile. Recoil wasn't bad for a 308 gun imho, and with match ammo the best I could get was about 1.5-2 moa at 100 yards with 5 or 10 round groups. Was reliable with Brass cased ammo, mine did not care for steel case stuff, got better as it broke in, but even after a few hundred rounds, I would still get a failure to ignite 1 out of 20 rounds or so. Wasn't really an issue as steel case stuff was just blasting ammo. Ergos and all were pretty good, but the gun is pretty bulky and at times it can feel like holding a 2x6 with a pistol grip screwed on. Front handguard kinda sucked, short and was hard to find stuff that would work well for it to help control the gun under recoil. I find the aftermarket handguards rather ugly, but the BLKLBL is probably a must have upgrade if you can tolerate the looks. I ended up selling it off after I got a WLVRN. While the T7 never gave me any issues, the WLVRN did, but once I got them Ironed out, I found the WLVRN was more svelte, enjoyable to shoot, more capable, and it has a better selection of handguards and caliber conversion kits. My WLVRN was one of the first ones made, I know they have made some slight tweaks to the gun since, so Its possible its more buttoned up now. Video review I did of the Tavor 7 ![]() Tavor 7 review In my WLVRN review I did compare on screen the sizes between the 2 if you want to see that. So In short I would say if you want a 308 bullpup that will run great out of the box, and the weight and bulk is tolerable, go with the Tavor 7. If you want something lighter, more sleek and more options for customization, but are willing to tolerate possible issues and or tweaking it, the WLVRN is a good choice. |

I've been debating on one, but Geiselle hasn't put out a trigger pack that works for them yet. Or is the stock trigger massively improved from the Sar? Having a compact 308 for ~300 yards and in hunting and going through brush in bear country is intriguing to say the least. |

Shooting sight offers a pack if you must upgrade |
| Desert Tech seem like a nice gun but even if they had the configuration I want the price and past shenanigans would make me pretty hesitant. I'd like to see 16" or pinned 14.5" 6.5 Creedmoor to play with. I'd still like to shoot one of the Tavor 7 308's. |

I also didn't let the barrel cool between groups because I didn't have the patience. Can't remember the order I shot them in I just know one of the match ammo groups was last, and it wasn't the 175gr. I think I shot the 175gr first and thought, "Guess this thing really is a 2 MOA rifle." Then I shot the others and was surprised. |

I encountered the same significant accuracy loss with 175gr. To me, the Tavor 7's meant for FMJ. |

To me, the Tavor 7's meant for FMJ. Yeah it seemed to just not like the heavier ammo. When I shot my groups I had a Razor Gen 2 3-18 on it that I was moving between a couple different guns to test accuracy (T7, B&T APC308, and something else I can't recall). |

Heavier bullets need more spin for stability. 1:11 or 1:10 would help. I remember when the IWI reps teased barrel options back when the T7 was released at SHOT 2019. |

I've always wanted a Tavor 7 and entered a lowish bid on Gunbroker. I won a black 20" stock Tavor 7. The second time I ran the charging handle, it broke off. So I ordered a pair of replacements from IWI ($29 each), I figure having a spare is good. Especially since you can't run it without one and there doesn't seem to be any aftermarket versions for the Tavor 7. I can't dig to far into it until I get the new charging handle which should arrive just as I'm headed out of town. There was a spot on the box where it's obvious that they put something heavy on the rifle. The plastic broke right where it meets the metal internally. The IWI customer service guy was very helpful and took about a day to source the parts for me. As I was waiting on the replacement charging handle, I started looking at upgrade parts. I saw another Tavor on Gunbroker that had the Manticore buttpad and raised rail. I put in a lowish bid and won that one as well. So now I have a 16" Tavor 7 headed my way. I really wanted a 16", but know the 20" makes more sense. So I'll shoot both back to back and see which one I like more. Then I'll trade or sell the spare. |

Not that I don’t believe you but would like to see the failure point first I’ve heard of that one. |

Again, I do believe it was abuse in shipping. Either a heavy load was dropped on the box or the box fell from a decent height with minimal padding at that point. It broke right where the metal support ends. There are some openings at the same location where the latch hardware goes in and pivots, so that probably also created the weak point. I haven't seen another post when I was searching for a replacement, so I think it is a rare thing. Even the IWI rep had to search to find the replacement part number. I did buy a spare just in case and still stick it under the buttpad storage. I will probably never need it, but for $30, it'll keep it functioning if it happens again. |

Yeah, this has been quite possibly the most frustrating product I have ever had to design! Thought I had it worked out more than once (even had a mold made for the mounting lug!) but found in more in depth testing it wasn't 100% reliable to staying locked in the forward and stowed position. I was originally just trying to have a "tooth" on the folding handle that engaged the metal tab to keep the handle locked forward, but the lug the handle mounts on gets enough movement it isn't stead enough and with the 308 recoil would cause the charging handle to often open. We have a mold and sample parts for our lug as it was working initially (worked great on our Hammerhead forends) but there is enough or a subtle difference on the OEM forend that it would cause handle deployment, and I was not able to increase the spring pressure enough to prevent it from deploying a percentage of the time. The angle that the handle had to fold to catch the locking tab was not ideal, so that was part of the issue. Right now I am looking at modifying our current lug and handle design to incorporate a latch like the OEM one. Folding the handle out will cause it to be unlocked, and I can focus on the folding handle only having to fold, not just to latch. I had considered a handle that is simply spring loaded to stay in the folded position all the time, and only deploys when you are actively pulling on it (like a Springfield Kuna) but that doesn't really work with the HK hold open notch at the rear. I had even considered just making the folding handle fold up or down, which avoids the issue of recoil deploying it, and you manually deploy, but that will not work well with the HK hold open notch at the rear. And it still doesn't give it a way to lock into the tab. It is a very tight and finicky area to work with, you can tell that even IWI really had to work to make it all fit and function. If they had gone with a setup like the X95 (why they didn't I am not sure) it would have been way easier to make work, but as the aftermaket, we don't get to say how they should do it, we just get to adapt to what is there. P.S. If anyone has any ideas how to solve this design problem (or if any of the possible solutions above I have considered sound good even though I have passed them by) please let me know! I am willing to brainstorm this one with the public to make it happen, as we still get lots of requests for a folding handle for the Tavor 7. Sven Manticore Arms |

Sven Manticore Arms The only benefit I see to the HK type notch being incorporated is the ability for malfunction clearing. As reliable as mines been I’d give it a go without. But I would think you could set the food point a touch further out and have enough meat to set it in there since it’s only an administrative need I’d think that wouldn’t be a problem to fiddle with it to then release from that spot. ETA: Would be game to converse further and even send a couple pics of what I mean cause I can’t explain it all that well. Your great doing all this work on bullpup stuff I know where a smaller market but seems like you work hard to innovate for it and don’t just send out gimmicks |

Sven Manticore Arms Been thinking about it, & my idea was a spring-loaded, telescope "sleeve" design that disengages/deploys by pulling & swiveling 90°. The "sleeve" would need a slot cut out to clear the factory-style finger latch when deployed, or alternatively, substitute a push button on the aft side of the handle (articulating on the same latch pivot point as the factory latch). Obviously, there needs to be mechanical interference to prevent the folding part of the handle from moving in either configuration, & the telescoping pull spring would need to have sufficient force to eliminate the the sleeve from "jumping" out of its position under repeated recoil impulses. |

While I am at it, we are warming up various molds for another production run of parts, and would there be any interest in OD Green and/or FDE Hammerhead forends? Sven Manticore Arms |
