| So how important is the the tab thickness on the op rod? I see specs listed as about .095 - .1, but then I see them for sale with a thickness of like .085. I ask because mine measures .091-ish. Wondering if it's causing issues or could. |

I've read a bent rod can cause issues and was thinking it being loose might act like one being bent. |

Have you tried other clips? How about other ammo? Is the gun well lubricated? Does it have a new op rod spring? How does the tab at the end of the op rod (that inserts into the gas block) measure? Did you measure the gas block bore? Start with the simple stuff. |

I just bought a new oprod( looks to be new old stock). 0 movement now, but had to sand down under the barrel for it to clear. If still have issues I'll check out some of the stuff you asked about. |

I threw them and some USGI I bought in a tumbler and spread the lips open some to remove tension. Now it's cooling off I should have a little more time to shoot |

Op rods have bends by design but can also get bent in ways they shouldn't. If the rod bound up as you describe, sounds like it would have been worth sending to Columbus Machine to be gaged and adjusted to specs unless something else is going on like an over or under indexed barrel. |

Was able to find time to shoot yesterday and I think the new op rod helped, but didn't fix the issue. with USGI and my other clips it would fail to feed after the fist shot then run fine. I upped my powder charge on my reloads(Match Rifle/2520). Is there a load I should try to rule that out? It has grease on it, but I didn't slather it in it. I use about as much on my M1A . How much does it actually need? I replaced the op rod spring with a new one. Gas piston measures .526 Have no idea what the Cylinder measures. Is there a way to check without buying a tool? |

First thing to do is use factory ammo. Piston tab looks good. I grease up the gun in any spot where metal contacts metal. There are numerous videos online about lubrication. You can buy pin gauges to measure the gas cylinder : https://www.garandgear.com/product/m1-garand-gage-pins/ |

Don’t try to straighten it or dremel it. |

| To my way of thinking as long as the op rod doesn’t jump the groove its within spec. |
ProTip: Never pick a fight with a tree planter. He swings a hoedad for 9 hours a day, carries 30-40 pounds of seedlings on his back, and has 12-14 friends just like him hiding out on the other side of the junk butt pile. They will fuck your shit up.

I'll shoot another 3 I have loaded up just to make sure, that will be 5 total. Then I'll probably throw it in the safe and hardly shoot it ![]() My original arm looks like this unmodified one, I'm pretty sure that's why it was binding after the first shot. I didn't run across this until after. https://ammogarand.com/m1-garand-follower-ar1.html |
