Links, or it didn't happen.  Suggest that if you are avoiding powder burners for this for a legal reason, you make sure it also does NOT apply to air guns. Some places treat them differently. Some places treat them the same. In any case... Your profile shows you are in NY state. I'm guessing you probably can't concealed carry a greater than 0.177"l rock without a Fatherland-May-I. A 50-cal steel ball at 500 fps isn't something I want to stand in front of. If you're choosing what to stand behind to stop a threat, seems like a 45-cal lead hollow point moving at >800 fps would be better. Especially if they are regulated the same-ish.
