Hi guys, I purchased a SureFire 3 Prong Eliminator .762 Flash Hider - 5/8x24 from Primary Arms, thinking it would sync right up. However, after some googling / searching on this form, this might not be the case. There seems to be a lot of debate about mounting muzzle devices to the Scar. The lack of consensus makes me wonder if I made the wrong choice... What is the latest on the subject? Will it work? Hopefully flash hiders ship with required hardware. Any other considerations? Thanks! |

I ran one on my Scar 17 when I had it, you just needed a shoulder adapter between the MD and barrel. https://www.parkermountainmachine.com/product/surefire-scar-17mk20-shoulder-ring/ I do not know/remember if the Surefire 7.62 muzzle devices come with said ring. |

Surefire does not sell a muzzle device directly to consumers that times to the face of the muzzle. All of their SOCOM flash hiders time to the shoulder of the barrel. You will have to send your barrel to Surefire if you want them to use special shims to time it to your barrel’s muzzle. I bought my SCAR 17s in 2012 and got a Surefire SOCOM 762 suppressor for it in 2013. This was before the KBA shoulder ring, and Surefire told me to use their washer backwards. After 2000 rounds it lost concentricity due to shoulder deformation. I sent the barrel to a very reputable SCAR gunsmith who uses the KBA ring and got the same result. Sent the barrel to Surefire and they fixed it with muzzle shims they don’t sell to the public. Bottom line: I recommend buying a muzzle device that times to the muzzle and not the shoulder of the barrel. Dead Air makes a Keymo flash hider specific to the SCAR 17. That is what I would recommend to you. |

I used a 3P to mount my SOCOM suppressor, no ring, no washers. It's faced off the muzzle. It's literally in the instructions as an option. I took it a step further and laser cut some 3-thou shims to time it, but that's not at all required. |

Would a 14in scar 16s barrel with a pin & weld surefire 3 prong and 556rc2 run into the same issues or is that going to be specific to the 17s barrel because of the barrel profile? |

It is specific to the SCAR17. The 16 does not have the issue, especially if you have a gunsmith do the pin and weld. Most would still add some sort of washer as a base, but I have yet to see an issue on SCAR 16s when done right. The SCAR 17’s shoulder is too small for the Surefire 762 flash hider or brake. Surefire really needs to offer flash hiders that time to the muzzle with muzzle shims, just like what Dead Air offers (and KAC for that matter). For the SCAR17, in retrospect, I think what would have worked best from the get go is applying a thin, appropriately sized washer or nut followed by a pin and weld. 16” barrel with a pin and weld crazy? Yes. However, Surefire flash hiders can come loose with use and time. I have several thousand rounds through mine (SOCOM 762, SOCOM 556 RC2, Surefire Mini SOCOM RC2 762, Genesis 762). Taking them on and off and induce wear and tear on the flash hiders, and you can also torque any muzzle device off if you are not careful. It’s why I always check concentricity now before and after I shoot. I recently had a flash hider come loose on a Galil ACE 7.62x39 SBRs that I consider high stress, high temp wear and tear after about 3000 rounds. It was installed by a gunsmith too with appropriate torque wrenches. I have not had a Surefire flash hider come loose or be an issue on any of my AR-15s yet (knock on wood). Everything I have always had Surefire’s recommended Rocksett. My smith this time around used Red Loctite on my Galil ACE. I’m sure it won’t move this time, but the darn thing does get very hot when shooting magazines (7.62x39 mm + 8.7” barrel + SOCOM 762 suppressor = HEAT + A LOT OF FUN ).
