I want to “roll my own” suppressors now that no registration is required as a GOA member. I know that markings are required, but my question is about the S/N. I understand the other marking requirements, but what does “approved” serial number mean? With out a form, what makes it approved? Does it meeting the requirements of characters make it approved? Or do I still need some permission slip from the gov? |

Jensen plaintiffs are afforded relief from serial numbers on NFA items. 26 U.S.C. 5842(b) the requirement that a possessor of an unmarked NFA firearm obtain and apply an ATF-assigned serial number (and related identification). 26 U.S.C. 5861(i) the prohibition on receiving or possessing an NFA firearm that is not identified by a required serial number. |
