So, are the six foot models now available in 5 gauge, even if special order?

I'll get a pic or two up some time this week, I've been busy since I got back home. The safe would have been here about 5-6 weeks earlier, but I had to take a 4 week trip to China for work. As my luck seems to go, Sturdy called me about a week before I was leaving to say it was done but they were waiting for the paint to fully cure before shipping, and they wanted to try to confirm a date on which I would be home to receive delivery. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have gotten here before I left, so Sturdy offered to hold it in their shop for me until I returned. Got back to the US, gave them a call, and I had the safe in my garage about 5 days later, including a weekend. Then the fun part of moving it out of the garage and to where I wanted it started. However, a good friend, Egyptian methodology to move heavy items (just dowel rods under the safe to roll it across the floor), and some ingenuity (and gravity), and the safe is now in place and being loaded up. Overall, I really like it. It's nothing fancy, but that's not what I cared about, and it seems like the build quality will more than do what I wanted it to, if the need were to arise. Now, I'm not saying the safe is ugly by any means, the painted finish is actually pretty nice, some inconsistencies are noticeable if you're looking for them in the finish, but overall it looks great to me. The safe arrived packaged up well, and the freight companies Sturdy used did their job well by not dinging the packaging up at all. I also had a small bottle of color matched touch-up paint inside the safe that came in handy after getting a few dings on the paint from moving it. |

Upon researching their safes, I noticed they had a few different sizes offered in the 5 gauge, vs. the 7 gauge that most/all the other safes they make come in. So I called and asked if it would be possible to get the 3627-7 I wanted made with a 5 gauge body. I was told, at the time I was thinking about ordering, that they were going to be doing a small run of 5 gauge safes, and they could accommodate my request since they would have the tooling set up and operational, but only if I wouldn't mind waiting a few extra months and paying a small upgrade fee for the thicker steel. This was not an issue for me, so they did it. I may have just called to order, and asked the right question at the right time to be able to get the 5 gauge upgrade done on that size of safe, not really sure. They just said they could do it at that time since I asked about it, so I took them up on it. |

I recently used the information in this thread to make up my mind to buy a real safe for my stuff. My decision boiled down to Graffunder or Brown.
These are the factors that came to my mind: Graffunder C-rated - exterior 71x48x29 37 cu ft volume 3600 lbs single door group one lock, 4 side boltwork $13,600 w/tax installed Pros: beautiful craftsmansip, very tight sealing doors, random relockers, heat triggered relockers standard, armored lock (all sides) , steel / concrete composite (except on door, no concrete just rockwool). Distribution by dealers so you can touch and feel before buy. you can buy from stock or special order fire rating 1 hour @ 1750, Cons, No UL TL rating, No concrete in door, just rock wool, Limited lock selection ( no redundant lock option La Gard 6441), to fit in my proposed location one of my house interior door frame would have to be removed to accommodate the 29.25 depth, Dealer distribution model requires local sales tax $840 Brown TL-30 - exterior 77x48x28 , 30 cu ft volume, 4350 lbs double door 3 side bolt work $13,800 installed (no sales tax) Pros: Total custom design and size to fit my application, UL TL 30 rating with placard, Double doors, 2.5" concrete all sided, 2" concrete on doors Dual Redundant locks on both doors keypad and Group1 4-ring dial (La Gard 6441), full custom interior, fire rating 1.5 hrs @ 1700, carbide chip plate lock armor, power strip inside, factory direct means not sales tax if outside Californian Cons: factory direct sales model means buying sight unseen, mechanical relockers not random placed, Shipping from California is expensive, By all accounts I find, Brown not nearly as finely crafted as Graffunder 50% payment on order, 50% before shipping, 12 weeks for construction. If I compare the two I think. Graffunder very secure but less so at door because no concrete only rockwool , cheaper, 23% more volume $367 per cu ft, beautiful aesthetics, better known as top notch. Lighter, less Fire resistance, harder access (single door), poor lock options, Lighter so cost $3.77 per pound Brown more secure, More expensive $460 per cu ft, many more options for custom build, Much heavier so cost $3.17 per pound I chose the Brown because It will fit my designated location without house modifications, because it was UL TL30 which is tested secure, and because it had dual redundant lock options. All other differences were marginal too me. I invite comments especially from the safe professionals. |

Welcome to the forum Jimbo. Always happy to see real Safe Techs in here. Don't be discouraged by the outspoken amateur safe experts. Facts and logic can't change strong opinions.
What outfit do you work for? BTW, anyone interested in checking UL Listings, you can do that at MyHome@UL. This Online Certification Directory provides consumer verification. And yes, Brown has current TL-15 and TL-30 listings. |

And yes, Brown has current TL-15 and TL-30 listings. The original post is three years old now TSG and the OP ended up buying a Sturdy. These $14K TL rated safes are way beyond the scope of this thread in security level because you could buy four 4ga Sturdy Safes or three B-rate Browns for the same cost. Sturdy only offered 5 ga bodies back then but now they offer 4ga bodies with 3/8" doors that can be plated with with additional steel for still less than the cost of this B-rate Blown delivered and that is even 3 years after this post originated. Actually I bought one of these reinforced Sturdy Safes since with the firelining so I probably should update the cad sketch to show what that looks like in comparison. I saw recently that Sturdy just purchased a brand new 500 Ton press brake which I believe might nearly double the capacity of their existing press so maybe they will be offering heavier bodied gun safes of their design? edited for typos |

I know this is an old post. I did a search on safe reviews and found it. I'm buying a new safe. This jimbojones21 that popped up out of no place just to post in this post and it seems this is the only post he ever posted in also. What does that tell everyone here.
He's a safe dealer bashing from mostly what I read a another safe dealer and pushing another safe. To call Sturdy Safes garbage is about the most ridicule thing I've ever heard on this forum. From my research they are one of the best built safes I've seen. I have zero to do with them to. It just pisses me off to hear another dealer makeup a bogus acct. and dash another site sponsor. Also there is a hugh difference in say 2800.00 and 10k or even 6k when the difference are minor. If a 10 ton fork lift can pry a door off a pry bar isn't. Either way the things this jimbojones21 said is bullshit along with himself for hiding behind a fake acct. Not even a paying member and bashing a site sponsor. Ban hammer right there. Does not matter though If you look at the date this post was started 1-12 and this jimbojones21 registration date to arfcom is 1-13 you know it's a troll acct set up by an existing member/dealer in safes. This is 10-2017 and last post date of jimbojones21 was 11-1-14 Rockola is correct. I'm no expert but I can read. Sturdy for the money you cant beat. I'm buying one this month. But be sure you call them do not go by prices on web site they are way lower if you call. But this jimbojones21 you were a joke and ruined a good informative post with your argumentative nonsense. This post was for information and to help with a buying decision. You turned into a who's better B.S. post I know your still out there under your real user name. You should be banned if caught. |

If you are aware of somebody like this being dishonest, then share what you know. Who is it?
Most of us in the security business take honesty pretty seriously. Our reputations depend on it. If there are those being deceptive with words, what else will they be deceptive about? Those are exactly the types of people who should be run out of this industry. |

Maybe you could help the mods "ban hammer" if you told us all what you know. Why would you come in here, imply that you know something, and then avoid divulging that information?
For a second I almost though you were referring to me, but then it dawned on me. Couldn't be me. I'm not a gun safe salesman, nor does my business rely on selling gun safes. So I'd have no vested interest as your claim originally suggest. But what confuses me is that I don't see any others in this thread that it could be. So who is it? Who are you referring to? |

Although I do know there was one person who posts on this forum who is in the safe industry that trolled under a different name that the mods did expose (it wasn't Frank btw), I have no idea who jimbojones21 is ... JJ made claims about Sturdy Safe that weren't true (E.g., where the relock was located etc.) And his arguments were ridiculous IMO especially if you have ever closely examined the construction of a Sturdy Safe. |
| I looked at Sturdy safes last winter (along with Fort Knox, Liberty, Amsec, and others). Ended up buying a Superior Untouchable 45. It's a "B" rated safe, for whatever that's worth. It will be bolted down in a concrete room with concrete walls on three sides, so the 1/4" sides won't be exposed, only the 1/2" door will be. |
