I stripped one of the bushing threaded holes apparently. Challis Grips sells a frame repair tap and oversize bushings. Debating on doing this myself instead of taking it to my gunsmith. Anything I should be concerned with? Also wondering if super glue would be an option?

I used 1 to repair my son's SA 1911 and it's lasted for 2 years now. |

It is a straightforward repair with the oversize tap and bushing. Be sure to use a tap guide so you keep the tap straight and don't go in at an angle. You have one shot at an oversized bushing in the frame. If that ends up failing you will need to stake the bushing in the frame with a 1911 grip screw bushing staking tool. Not sure what your mechanical background is, but if you have never used a tap before - study up on how to use one first. Good luck |

Welp, I fixed this today. I decided to change grips and had had enough so I broke out the tap, the oversized repair bushing, and a bottle of oil. I'm not gonna lie, I was sweating a bit because I don't have a tap guide and was free handing the tapping. When the tap was through the frame far enough I was sure I'd threaded the entire hole I backed it out and threaded the new bushing in. No issues. Went in smooth, straight, and bottomed out just like it was supposed to. Whew. I are a gunsmiff! |
