I have lost a very useful resource - JBM online ballistics. It until seems a few weeks ago you could go to the web site and run trajectory calculations, now that function/web page is missing. Is this because I use an old operating system or have they really discontinued that service? If it's gone, what's suitable replacement? |

There was another thread on this in the last few days, but I didn't read it. and don't kno how to find it. But, I went on the website and it's exactly as you say. I used to use it all the time. It was my favorite computer ballistics app because it was accurate, and it had a ton of bullets on it, more than anybody else. I hope it's only temporary. My other favorite, on the phone, was Strelok, and it's been gone for a while. I was still able to use it until about a year and a half ago. I had to buy a new phone because my old screen just went black, so I couldn't transfer it. I haven't found anything remotely close to it in features. |

We still have Gordon's Reloading Tool even though Gordon has passed away. We lost JBM Ballistics even though the sire owner is still with us. IMO, both are key resources for reloaders which would be a loss when/if they disappear. In this age of massive computing power and data storage, why are these software tools not offered for the user to download instead of yaking them down? Proliferate them, as a means of preserving them, so they do not disappear. P.S. - Creating a cell phone application does not help me. |

I haven’t used AB or Hornady but JBM solver reported the angle between line of sight & bore. One could hold this angle as a constant for other solutions. Where I used this was in solving for subsonic hold-overs when an optic was zeroed for supers. This can be done empirically by zeroing supers, shooting the reticle drop-tree / holdovers at range and then trial & error testing with subs. But the JBM model got pretty close without having to set out tall targets at extended ranges. |

Having any ballistic solver that does not rely on manufacturer (false) BC values, requires expensive equipment or contracted testing. I know that it used to be $10,000ish to get a full ballistic profile for a projectile, but this information is probably outdated, but one data point. I could see someone having access to the equipment, and then retiring, and the project dies. Same story with many hobby industries, and open source projects. |

That is my point, exactly. We need to make the software retirement-proof. If you are walking away, leave the software with others. It might be that no new bullet profiles get added. So be it. JBM already had an awesome catalog of bullets. Some of the bullets in JBM are not in the Bulletarc.com database (my favorite is missing). Ditto for GRT. |
