Buddy has one and left it with me for a while. Only irons. Brake was obnoxious, but worked. Accuracy was ok for irons and cheap ball. Reliable The rail was loose, WTF Springer. One screw came all the way out and was a bitch to find. I only put 80-90 shots through it. A dot on the rail might be the best. I had a 2X aimpoint not doing anything, so I tried it but eye relief was no good out front like that. 1400 isn’t horrible, but I prefer my sfar by far. It was 1k. Attached File |

| I have a Scout Squad I've scored a number of years ago for $1100. I really like that rifle. Been shooting M118LR out of it for some time. 400yds is the furthest I've fired it. Consistently hit a 6" gong with it using a Primary Arms Slx 1x. |

| For the extra 4" of barrel, I like the handling of the standard length. That brake is ridiculous. Effective, but fuckin' abusive. For me, the Scout Squad occupies a strange niche in between the 16" SOCOM/Tanker and the 22" Standard, and it doesn't offer a whole lot more than either of those for what it is. |

I had a standard first, it was cool looking and shot fine but was a musket. My scout squad is handy and perfect and uses all the original parts. I wanted the socom 16 until I saw how many proprietary parts it used and the front sight is huge compared to the scout and standard. |

@backbencher Looks like This is the base needed. I need to order this one. After looking at the website a bit more, I overlooked this base and ordered the other one. Oh well. I've wasted more money on lesser things. Lesson learned. |

I wish someone would come out w/ an illuminated reticle 1x optic that isn't a prism & isn't a red dot for those of us w/ astigmatism but still need infinite eye relief. |

Despite their "shortcomings" I have always been a fan of the M1A platform. I have bought and sold two Standard models over the years. Back then, they were about $1200. Once I started seeing the prices creep into the $1600 plus range, I lost interest in buying new. One day I stopped at a shop that had certain firearms on clearance. This place is kind of high on their prices, and when they usually have sales it just means the prices come down to what they should be. They had a Tanker model for $1500 so I picked that up because at the time, the cheapest I could find online was $1600. A few weeks later, I stopped at another shop and they had a Scout model on the used rack. $1299 plus tax, so I scooped that up as well. I wasn't sure which model it was when I first saw it, I had to look it up, but once I realized what it was, I did a search for prices. All were $1700 to $1800. If you have always wanted one, that isn't a bad price so I would go ahead and get it. I wouldn't pay new price for one. |
| I've had my SS since 2008. I've only shot M80 style ammo, it really likes the IMI that I got years ago. Given my aging eyes, I would like to get some type of optic for it, but I know mounting is a key part of it. I still have the factory rail on the front, but not sure if that really has any value. |

Recieved my new rear sight mount from Bad Axe Tactical. It lowers the Primary Arms prism sight a lot. Able to get a better cheek weld on the stock riser and don't have to raise it as much. Now to zero it this weekend.

I bought mine in the late 90's, probably haven't shot it in 20 years. I should take it out to the range and rezero it. I had the Springfield scout scope on it, but pulled it off ages ago in anticipation of putting a red dot on it. Never got around to that so I should probably just mount up the old scope and get it hitting again. That thing was wicked fast inside a couple hundred yards point shooting with that scope. Swing it to target with your non-dominant eye and when you were pretty much lined up your brain just kind of switched eyes and your finger knew when to squeeze. Now that I'm on a suppressor kick I need to figure out something to make it quiet. B&T says their M1A suppressor will work on the scout, but I've never seen it nor heard how it works. Generally speaking it sounds like the rifles themselves are punishingly gassy when suppressed. Enjoy your new rifle. They are quite a bit of fun and in my opinion kind of hit the sweet spot for the rifle between size and performance. |
