Any opinion on these safes? Was looking to buy two safes for around $10k. ~60x40x28, decent fire and theft rating, non Chinese made 10g steel construction. Was also looking at a vault door in addition to these safes. Not including the vault door into that budget. Plan on building out a safe room. Obviously open to other manufacturers and suggestions. Very much appreciated. |

$5k per safe is a decent budget. You can actually get something legit (way better than 10ga lol) at that price point. If your intended location is on a concrete slab with no stairs so a safe can just be rolled in on a pallet jack, its worth calling around to commercial safe dealers within a ~8 hour radius of you to see if they have any used TL-15s available. You'll spend the same amount, (or maybe less) and get a 2500 lbs safe made of 1/2" plate steel that is essentially impenetrable. You'll most likely have to build interior gun shelving, but that's pretty simple. You can also call up Fort Knox - they occasionally have factory seconds and blems in that price range. Delivery from UT to WI will be expensive though. Sturdy makes great safes but $5k probably wont cover the size you want with fire protection included. But its worth calling them up and seeing what your options are. |

The safes are required to be around that size as the location would be a second walk in closest in the bedroom. I don’t think I’d be able to get a 2500lbs safe into the house like that. I can probably stretch the budget a bit, but $10k for two safes is really just what I had in mind. My budget is not factoring in shipping costs. I assume that will be in the $1-2k range for both safes and door. Thanks. |

Yeah, a TL-15 aint gonna happen if you're going into a bedroom closet. Check out the Sturdy "Essential" safes- https://www.sturdysafe.com/products/42w-27d-60h-essential-gun-safe Their Heavy Duty safes are 4 ga (0.22" wall thickness). Their Essential safes are identical in terms of construction, lockwork, etc but made of made of 7ga (0.18"), meanwhile 10ga is 0.13". With a fire lining the 42"x27" weighs around 1000 lbs. Still maneuverable into a closet. MSRP is $4300 and if you call in and ask for a quote on two of them delivered together, I bet they'll give you a very nice discount. I would guess around $8,000 delivered to your garage for both. You'll be responsible for hiring a safe moving company to get them moved from the garage to their final resting place. You would be hard pressed to do better than that, especially if you're planning on an ultra-secure vault room as well. |

I did send a message to Sturdy inquiring about two heavy duty 36x27x60” models with the heavy metal and fire lining packages. Same with their vault door. Told them I’d be interested in all three. Also mentioned for safes I would be interested in floor/showroom/blem models that match as I don’t really care about the safes appearance. I wouldn’t say I’m making a totally secure safe room, but for sure remodeling it to be a reinforced and secure room. Room dimensions are about 8’6”x7’. Not the biggest by any means. |

This thread made me to check to see if Sportmans Steel still had their same shitty website....yep! It is still there and the same. If you search, they have been posted about several times here. I looked at them in person (here in Houston) many years ago, for the price I found competitors to have significantly better safes. They have (had in the past) some bad reviews and they finally updated their website a little (past the 1990s). I have heard rumors that they have improved quite a bit but haven't take a look in the last 8yrs or so. Like everything: compare their specs and build quality in person against competitors. I do think, like everyone else, they make some cheap budget safes and some nice stuff on the higher end. |
