| I just got a pre owned socom 16 cqb.It did not have a Vortex venom optic.I put a Primary arms 2.5x compact scope with acss reticle.I got it sigted in.Its installed on forearm rail like a scout.Problem is parralax.Its unable to get a full view.I have the stock fully collapsed.Is there another optic that is more suitible in the scout position.By the way rifle is very accurate with Match ammo. |
| Parallax isn’t what you’re describing. It doesn’t really have anything to do with getting a full sight picture. The optic you’re using has an eye relief of under 3”. You’re going to need an optic made for the scout position with long eye relief. Otherwise go with a red dot. |

You can indeed mount an RDS forward on a rail and it’s fine. Observe on my folding Mini-14  Likewise on my Mini-G:  But if you want a scope mounted there, to get full sight picture it must be a long eye relief:  I have a 1x PA Cyclops prismatic on my Marlin 1894, and even mounted in a “traditional” scope mount position it’s considerably outside of OEM specifications:  It has some black around parts of the outside, but otherwise it’s perfect for my uses, despite being 3x farther away than the manufacturer recommends. The eye relief for a 2.5x might be more geared for an AR than a traditional stock rifle like the M1A, like this:  Check the manufacturer spec, and that’ll tell you where it should be good to mount. That being said, using long eye relief scopes is less than ideal unless you absolutely must load the action through where a “traditional” scope mount would be. While I have the Burris for the Mini-G, the H1 is lighter and handier. Leupold also makes a scout scope, which has better optical quality than the Burris, but not as generous as eye relief, so it wouldn’t work on my Mini-G, for example:
