But they are spendy and we have so many carpenter bees in north GA I feel as though I need the suppressing fire option of the FRT. |

When you say it like that it almost seems like it would be un-American in spirit to not take on this challenge. Hopefully you can source a barrel and get to shaving down the mass enough to get it running. If you're successful there will be a bunch of guys wanting to do the same. |

Of all men’s miseries the bitterest is this: to know so much and to have control over nothing.

Not that I really care about such things, but wouldn't it have to be 18" to avoid being a SBS? IIRC, that was the issue with Taurus wanting to import the Judge in 28ga or whatever caliber that other version is that they sell in Brazil. The only reason I actually thought about it was because that would explain why it would be hard to find short smoothbore barrels. I use an old badminton racket on them when I'm outside. Carburetor spray and brake cleaner knock them out of the air too. The little buggers love the rafters on my shed even though they're supposedly pressure treated and I saturate them with spray a couple times a year; respraying them is on my list of things to do this weekend.I can't recall where I saw them but I know someone was selling recoil springs that were designed weak for subsonics, really weak for CBs and stronger than OEM for hypervelocity. The spring for CBs might work, but you might have to remove some weight off the bolt too. DIP (https://www.diproductsinc.com/Products.aspx?CAT=12618) makes reduced power, regular and extra power but I know I saw someone selling springs for CBs. If I remember who I'll post a link. |
| My idea is a 10” chargerish setup. I’m sure I can find a cheap reciever and stock. Lightened bolt and light recoil spring are gonna be a must. Really the barrel will be the hold up. I guess I’m gonna have to call a barrel company and see if they can just make me one. |

If the barrel is rifled or not, it likely won't affect the shot pattern enough to go to all the trouble to have a custom barrel made. It feels like you are getting hung up on the smoothbore aspect...have you tested 22lr shot shells through a normal 10/22 Charger barrel? |

When I’m dead and some estate company is auctioning off all my guns someone such as yourself will look at this and be like WTF was wrong with this guy. Then I hope the same poor bastard will get invaded by carpenter bees and think “he was a fucking savant.” It’s just boring honestly looking at all the same stuff. I just get hung up on shit that’s out of the box. |

If using a virgin 10/22 receiver, nothing. If using a rifle receiver, you've now got a receiver that shipped from Ruger as a rifle, and now you've got a barrel shorter than 16" on it. We can go other > pistol > rifle, or other > other (which is also the classification of the Mossberg Aftershock). We go go rifle > shotgun, and we can go other > shotgun > other. We can't legally go shotgun > other w/ a barrel under 18". It's not clear we can legally go rifle > other. Constitutionally the NFA is all hogwash, but no one wants to be a test case. |
I sell firearms produced by the finest child labor in the world, be it Filipino, Muslim, Mormon, Arizonan, or Texan.

Less than 18" is a short barreled shotgun. Aftershock or Shockwave are just a firearm. Smooth bore barrel over 26" overall length. You could do it if you started with a virgin receiver and kept the overall length over 26". Or just create an ATF eforms account and file a form 1 for a short barreled shotgun. Right now 0$ NFA tax. Im building a 12" barreled H&R .410 with a custom suppressor. Remington makes a "Low Noise" load of 1/2 Oz #9 that would be great for carpenter bees. |
| Look up a GARDEN GUN version of either a pump or lever action 22 rifle. Had a Marlin 39 garden gun as a kid for 22 shotshells. Better patterns with crimped style shells than the plastic bullet shaped cover for the shot load, as well as crimped never broke on the way to the chamber. Bolt and single shots were made as well, not any semi autos that I'm aware of can easily be made to feed them properly except maybe a remington 550 series with its floating chamber, had one of those years ago that fed crimped 22 shotshells usually, as well as CB short and long well. Shotshells are down in same pressure range as the CB loads. Never saw one witha SB barrel though. |
