Browsed thru the “Setting up the Fighting Shotgun” thread. How many folks are using a sling on your home defense shotgun? Right now my old Mossberg 500a is doing beside bump in the night duty. Has a 19”barrel (cut down old barrel) for that n usually gets the 24” back on it for hunting (rare occurrence these days). Standard magazine tube. I put a cheap padded sling just for carry on it at some point but don’t see any real use in the house. I can wrap my left arm inside as an hasty sling and still work the forearm so for retention it might help. What are you using and how? |

I'm a fan of slings on long guns, including those set up form HD. Here are a few of my HD SG's that are still getting improvements as I just completed refinishing them. I'll be adding side saddles and butt stock cuffs w/fold over covers. I like the fold over covers as it keeps rounds from falling out. I had ten but sold one to a friend and gave one to my brother. ETA- These came from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office (Florida) and according to the barrel codes, range in 1985-1987. 870 18" with simple sling  870 20" with simple sling  |

I run a sling. My background is Marine Corps and I have experienced that things aren't always as they seem/expect when we grab a weapon. Then you may find that you need your hands but what do you do with the weapon? Lay it down? I have been in that situation where I have had to decide what to do with a weapon when the something else required my immediate attention. A sling gives you options. My sling allows me to quickly and safely store my shotgun/rifle behind my back in a way that I know that it will stay there no matter what I do. And then with one fluid motion a can pull it around in front of me again, shoulder it, and get back to work. My sling doesn't get caught on door knobs because if my shotgun is deployed for possible HD then the sling is on my body. If the situation doesn't allow for time to sling the shotgun then I am going to my handgun. Whatever you decide to do, train and practice with it. Figure out what works for you. |

This is relevant to my interests. I want to add a two point sling attachment to my 870 so I can carry it muzzle down like an AR. It has regular sling studs for slinging over the shoulder, but I've become so used to having a gun handy in front of me that any other method of carry is awkward ETA: I think I could make this work https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KDE29TS?tag=arfcom00-20 |

The sling/no sling debate comes up regularly around here. While everyone is free to do as they please, I'm in the camp that a sling is one of those things that can only add value vs. take away value. Having done literally thousands of room and building entries and entering/exiting vehicles of all kinds more times than I can recall, coupled with God knows how many dynamic drills in and around various types of barriers, barricades, and obstructions, I've never snagged a sling nor have I witnessed it. Using a sling includes situational awareness and gear management just like any other piece of kit. I have seen other gear like a gas mask carrier or entry tool pack get snagged in tight quarters but never a sling... with that said I know it CAN happen but the odds of it happening when compared to the potential benefits of having a sling if needed makes having a sling a benefit vs. a liability than cancels out the benefit. A properly adjusted sling rides pretty damn close to the body and isn't the snag risk many seem to make it out to be. HD situations can take on many forms and can spill out into the yard, a field, etc. Tasks requiring hands means with no sling you're going to have to ground the weapon vs. maintaining positive control. A sling also aids in weapon retention should you end up in a hands on encounter. Just some points to consider by those WHO HAVE NOT YET made a decision reference sling use. |

they make a single point sling mount the replaces your trigger pack pin so you can carry it across your chest and use decent single point slings it uses a nut not shown here that keeps the pin from pulling out https://www.midwayusa.com/product/100528342/ |

Forgot I did use a sling once back in Astan 19’. US M1200 with British Pattern 1913 bayonet (made by Remington Sept 1916). That bayonet would get adopted as the M1917 bayonet for the M1917 rifle and US trench shotguns Attached File Attached File |

I installed a Magpul QD swivel in the QD spot of the barrel/mag clamp on my A 300. The QD swivel will pull right out. Some browsing had folks saying that BFG swivels set in deeper and will hold. Apparently magpul are too shallow? Anyone else experience this? |

I like it. Got a sling right here. BFG adapter on the stock and a magpul qd set up. Simple. I’ve been used to Mossberg 500 and getting used to the A300. So far I like it. Just getting sure enough to keep it close for bumps in the night. . |

The few shotguns we have in the armory vary in how they are set up. Only two, if i remember right, have slings attached. One has an old leather sling. Another has this thin nylon sling with multiple loops. Neither looks usable. They are kept for a similar reason as yours. They are building security. I wouldnt bother with a sling on a shotgun. But I keep a rifle with a sling instead. My opinion. Not worth much. |
| Not for home defense, worried it might get hung up on something but I do use it on my hog hunting shotgun, there are time you need both hands free to fight your way through the palmettos. |
