A little back story on this pistol .... I bought it new and put about 6 mags through it and gun is perfect with the exception of the case dings on the ejection port. It started out as a Sig 556 pistol (have Sig case and literature) then converted to a registered SBR. The lower is a Swiss lower, Hider is MFI, Aurora irons, Handguard is Swiss with a handguard retainer that was designed for the handguard but the name escapes me. I also have 6 brand new Swiss 30rd mags, one used Swiss 30rd mag (kept in firearm) and two new 20rd Swiss mags. I am curious the best way to possibly sell this rifle....part it out or what other legal means? Looking for the easiest way and what is this rifle worth without the Aimpoint or Aimpoint mount? I can't tell ya the last time I used it since I basically only shoot pistols nowadays. Any suggestions would be helpfull!  " /> " /> " /> " /> " /> " /> " /> " />

Its exactly what i’d want if i could afford it. Im more partial to the stanag lower but with the handguard and sights and swiss stock its the perfect setup. If youve never repurchased something you walked away from in the past i’d sell it. If you think youll regret selling. You prob will. Keep it. |

Since the upper half was registered as a rifle, can it ever go back to being a pistol? If not, then I don't see the point of unregistering it. Am I correct to assume that you don't have the original lower half? There is a very thin market for this SBR. The best way to sell it would be to put it on GunBroker for a 14-day auction that ends Sunday or Monday night around 9:00pm ET. Start at $0.01. You'll find the one person in the country who's willing to pay the most for it. My guess is that you'd get about $2,000. If you try to sell it locally, it will be a very hard sell. |
| You are correct I do not have the original lower. So if I go the gunbroker route and if someone buys it I need to take the rifle to a class 3 dealer to have it xfered. What do I do with the ATF on my end? I assume let them know the firearm was sold to person x and the dealer was x? |

I had a similar set up about 10yrs ago and sold it to fund a Swiss Sig. The stock amd lower are worth a fair amount on GB, for example. I am sure, as others have stated, the ATF has FAQs on returning it back to a pistol but consider the Tax stamp doesn't cost $200 these days. Just things to ponder |

I did nearly the same. I bought a P556 pistol, Picked up a Sig 556 Police Trade Swiss stock lower and sold the non-folding lower. I didn't get the 550 lower just because I was cheap. I'm still happy with mine I made a clone of it in a 522 side folder : ) The Sig 55X / 556 series are becoming more appreciated, the Swiss lower makes more desirable to anyone that appreciates the design and looks. If you sell it and you regret selling it later. To answer your inquiry - to the right buyer, its best as a set and if you wait, someone will likely do the math and buy it for a good price as people like you and I want it exactly as you have it and have to scrounge. You might get more parting it out - but I'd think you might have to take more time and effort dealing with selling parts. |

It can have the stock removed and go back to being a pistol. The lower is not Swiss. It’s the US made 551a1 lower that uses Swiss mags. As for the value, prob $1200 on the low end and $2k on the high end to the right buyer. Remove the Aimpoint, it won’t add to the price. You’ll just be giving it away. Honestly it’s just not worth it IMO. Keep it and start shooying it more. |

You've got some good parts on it that are desirable. IMO, if you want to sell it, remove the accessories and split the upper from the lower to sell. Someone who has a 556 rifle, may want the upper to SBR and pair with a 556 lower. While not worth as much as a Swiss lower, the lower you have is arguably more rare than a Swiss lower... issue is that for it to be worth max value, it needs the correct 551-A1 rifle upper - and those are as hard to find as the lower. When complete, they generally sell for around $2500-3000. |

You can in theory cut down a longer rifle 522, the gas /sight block is just fake and I think can be relocated though if anyone is truly interested. |
| I have one that I SBR'd about 10 years ago from a 556 SWAT pistol. By the time I got everything approved I was SOL for finding a folding lower, Swiss or NATO-I would be interested in just the lower and stock for my SBR but if that were mine I would never part with it. |
| Last Sunday I decided to take her out to the range to fire off two mags through her and she ran flawlessly. I am about 90% sure I am going to part it out for ease of things and toss on an auction site after I take it off the registry. Just need to dig out the upper Sig factory blue case, paperwork and backtrack what I paid for things and work forwards from there. Thanks all for the help and don’t want to let her go but have other SBR’s that will fill the void but don’t shoot them either, just pistols anymore short of hunting long guns. |

I used to be that way... I was a dedicated collector for years and years with all NIB original collectable guns like Anacondas, Pythons, Diamondbacks. Bunch of HK P7 versions, about (35) NIB German built Sigs and my Mastershops were directly imported from Germany for me like the X6's, X5's then I had the P210 variations along with the 225, 232, 230, 228, 226 models and so on along with other things like the old Smiths too. One day I just looked at the safes and thought to myself "Why do I have these when I don't plan on using them". Kids wouldn't appreciate them so sold quite a few to other collectors who would. Now I buy what I feel is the best of a category and blast away. It's crazy how the mind just changes one day. Side note....with all my 10's of thousands of dollars spent on Sigs alone I can tell you with certainty that today's Sig is not Sig of days past, unfortunately. Only have three Sigs now and will never purchase another even to beat up. :( |
