Well since shits free, any of them are "worth it" to do.

Buy 3 cheap turkish wonders, SBS one, keep other two for spare parts, still be under $750 total

It’s pricy for sure.   I’d like an option between the VEPR and Genesis in price.   However the Genesis seems really nice.

Anything else?

I have several mag fed SBS.  The VR80 is a decent made shotgun bit not much support to SBS but once set up is a decent gun.

If you can find a Lynx-12, or the JTS AR12, those work despite being both being Chinese, are well made and mine function great - even as SBS.

Both of these started out as under or at $200 semi auto mag fed shotguns and they work!

They are essentially fun guns.  I have a VEPR-12 SBS, but that is also a fun gun but expensive.

What handguard is that on the Lynx?

I think I want one for mine.

Its the one that was on The Kalishnikov-USA version of the Saiga-12 (KS-12?)  K-USA had parts reasonably priced sometimes on sale picked it up with some KP-9 parts on the website.  I think they are now technically out of business - not sure what the last word is on K-USA.

A JTS AR12 shotgun can accept a super safety /FRT and with some mod kits out there, they do work (mostly) but you cannot really control it.

JTS M12AR with a 20 Round Drum Magazine! Running a FRT-15L3 trigger. This thing is a monster!!!

The JTS is now on my radar. It very much reminds me of the USAS-12 shotgun that got categorized as a destructive device. I really don't need another shotgun,  but I'm going to grab one of those sooner or later.

SDS also imported a version of the Lynx that took Vepr-12 mags. I like the straight insert vs. The rock/lock of the Saiga mags. The only downside is the last round bolt hold only works with the factory mag, not Vepr mags. The followers are slightly different.

How many rounds do you have through the lynx? I also want to know what handgaurd. That looks awesome.

I have a cheetah, which I think might be the same thing? I heard a rumor that a lot of the chinese saiga clones stop working after a few hubdered rounds. I'm not sure I have enough rounds through mine to know or not.

I saw this AK Shotgun that has a VEPR mag well - Arms of America has this Turkish VEPR/AK Shotgun I keep walking past.

Not a fan of the long barrel but that could be fixed.  They say it "can" take other mags like VEPR but some fitting may be required?

I now have several AK SBS so I keep telling myself I do not need this Do I????  Add a Bonesteel Skeleton Folder and short barrel?

They launched those, then abruptly stopped.

RIA offers the Derya VR80 for half the cost.  Derya offers the DY12Y for $1100+ but doesn't seem to be worth making.  They have to make in FL as a non-NFA US made product but its imported except some US manufactured parts and assembly.  Just offer the US Barrels and handguards for people to convert their own VR80 for say $500 - still cheaper and you sell way more product with less manufacturing.

RIA imports the VR80. The bullshit import laws is what makes the  DY12Y expensive.  Benelli M4 sbs barrel assemblies are $1000 because of the laws.

Yeah, I found it. Bummer. Guess I'll go the modified 870 Magpul route.

I have to stay away from that JTS. That's nuts! He should look into a good brake and see if he can get that recoil a little better controlled. The "Tank" brake does a pretty good job.

Guess I'll just get a few more drums for the Lynx.

I'm well over a thousand on the Lynx. There's at least one guy with something north of 10k rounds on one, mostly full-auto, before he broke the bolt or carrier.

There are some horror stories out there of low round count failures, though, so I think it's fair to say QC was spotty as best.

Man that looks great!
So does it shoot as well as it looks? How long can it go until it gets too dirty to cycle reliably?

VFR 14 is the easy button. I’m going to do a Form 1 for mine soon. Probably submit one for my Shockwave while I’m at it.

I don't know how many rounds it would take - Never seemed to have a problem with  it binding on filth in gas system.  It is one of those " How Many Licks Does it Take to Get to the Center of a Charms Blowpop?"  I can say after shooting at least 3 boxes, it's never had excessive buildup or plastic.  I have it sort of over-gassed so I can run cheaper ammo with the choke set to Modified.

The Problem with the VR80 is between the odd handguard system, the strange barrel configuration with its multiple sets of unusual threads, there isn't too many natural places you can cut it really short.  Thanking it down to 12 inches at the length closet to where the factory retainer is easiest - but going shorter to the Derya DY12Y look is not as easy without that shorter gas system barrel.

PSA has had them on sale on and off for a while too.  I grabbed one not long after they hit the market and PSA had a Daily Deal (impulse add on buy ).  I didn't expect much but I read and watched what I could on them (strip them down and clean and re oil them, lock the bolt back for a week or so before shooting, leave the mags loaded for the same period, use heavy loads initially, etc) and to my surprise, so far it's run everything but some really low velocity target loads without even messing with the gas system.  It's clunky and quality seems to be about what you'd expect but it will dump ten rounds* as fast as you can pull the trigger.  I think I have just over 300 rounds of various loads through it including high velocity buck and slugs, so not much but I didn't see any signs of peening or unexpected wear marks.

It does use that funky stock assembly but fortunately you can find it cheap including the folder piece if you want a folder (I got both pieces for under $25).  With the folding section in place you'd want to limit the stock travel unless you've got really long arms.  I bought the pieces before they clarified the braces on "firearms" crap so now they're just sitting in a box separate from the gun; it says the tube is commercial spec but mil spec braces fit on it.  Now that the stamps are zero dollars I need to file to put a stock on it.

Looking at the design, I think you could only cut another couple of inches max off the 14" barrel (the tube under the barrel is for the operating system, it's empty inside).  I feel confident saying that you'd want to have the barrel threaded as well; while it patterns well enough for any dogmen at the base of my stairs and it's fun to shred cardboard boxes with at the farm, like every other barrel I've had cut it could definitely use tightening up.   There are a handful of accessories and aftermarket parts available for them and some VR80 parts work; most are available on RIA's parts page https://advancedtactical.com/parts/shotgun-parts/vr-series-shotgun-parts/

Didn't Mossberg introduce a mag fed version of the 990 Aftershock at SHOT?  I was interested in the 990s when they first introduced them, not much after the prices came out.  Neat guns but man they're expensive and so are the magazines.

Side note, plastic shotgun shells get deformed in magazines since they're not designed to be compressed that way so I personally would not plan on leaving them loaded long term and if I were going to consider it for defensive use I'd do some research and testing and try to figure out which shells had the thicker/stiffer hulls and regularly swap them out.

*Pull the base plate off the RIA mags and the spring guide is way longer than it needs to be and limits the mag to nine rounds.  A saw, a piece of sandpaper and a couple of minutes and you have ten rounds.  I've seen people say they took the guide piece completely off and get eleven in it but I haven't tried and ten is easier for my monkey brain and boxes of shells sold in five, tens and twenty fives. Five round mags are a lot less cumbersome, especially to carry but ten rounds is more fun.  There are several companies that make magazine pouches for the things but I can't imagine trying to carry the clunky guns and a handful of even ten round mags, much less the nineteen round mags or drums.

The JTS AR12 is retarded with a super safety and the 3d printed trip kit. FYI the trick is to pull the buffer out and drop a few quarters down the buffer tube. It’s my fuck you drone gun. I bought a turkey choke for it, waiting for warm weather to get out and pattern it.

Do you mean remove the buffer entirely (as in to replace with an H3 or?) or just use the rather light and unusual one that comes from the factory.

The one from the factory has a spring loaded rear-base I assume that is if it hits the back end with 3" mags and opened gas it doesn't crack the back of the buffer tube???

Did the quarter trick actually help the super safety mode?  I run an H3 in mine and it can do super safe "mostly"  but it must be firem - How many quarters and what buffer and loads are you using?

It is difficult to control - but fun.

Quarters in then stock spring and buffer back in. Start with 2 and work up.  The other method I heard was a carbine buffer tube with a Kak micro heavy buffer and flat wire spring, but why when the quarters work.

PSA has the JTS AR12 (California compliant version) for $185 shipped ($150 pre-tax & shipping), so I ordered one.  Although it has the Mlok handguard vs. the AR style handguard.  I like how the AR version handguard looks like the old USAS-12, but I'll take the Mlok handguard for half the money.  It's also, I'm assuming, more flexible so I could mount up a light or vert grip.

The Cali compliant has a pin that locks the mag release unless the upper is removed.  It is very easy to remove, so not an obstacle.  That is the third shotgun I picked up to do a SBS conversion to.

Trigon makes a trip for the bolt and I think it uses a standard AR FRT.  A decent FRT will cost you more than the shotgun.

That would be a logical next step - from what I've seen of their box magazine though, it works but I'd be curious if it is strong enough tension for a semi auto bolt speed,  It seems to work reliably though.

I'd be curious if the USMC has tested the mag fed pumps version - That is usually the gold standard for abuse.

The joke is - Lock 3 anvils in a room of marines, the next day One will be broke, One will be missing and the last one pregnant.  If they tested the Mossberg mags, then they are absolutely good to go.

@cherenkov does the MOE rifle stock just screw onto the stock buffer tube? Or did you mill or switch out tubes? That setup looks great.

The MOE stock required replacing the factory JTS tube with a plain rifle length tube - The kind like on an A1 or A2 stock and it requires a simple mod to fit the JTS receiver.

The JTS receiver buffer detent is different than an AR15 - its s square  spring loaded from the side  - so just simply tighten the rifle length tube on the JTS receiver until tight and mark the location for cutting a notch in it the detent to stick out - a file or Dremel work good - fairly easy.

You can alternatively use carbine-like stocks on the factory JTS tube.  It is sort of a really long Mil-Spec (sort of close to mil-spec) diameter tube.
Its just  you can only collapse the carbine stocks so  far and they bottom out.  You also would need to drill retention holes in the stock bottom as it only has one locking hole vs 4-6 holes on a normal adjustable stock for length.

I wanted that before they offered them - My VR80s (Same as Derya) have been cut down as much as possible without re-cutting a shorter gas system (about 10 inches) But I enlarged and added gas ports.

The Derya DY12Y should be more reliable than a VR80 as its shorter length gas system would be best for better gas dwell time.

Very happy with my JTS M12AR for the price, after a deep cleaning and heavy lube job its run everything without issue, just shy of 250 rounds of assorted but mostly 1-1/8oz 1200fps #7.5 trap loads and some very light recoiling Fiocchi 00 Buck

Now its nowhere near as nice as any of my tube fed shotguns, it was $149 afterall but for that price it feels pretty solid, the trigger is about as average as any basic AR trigger gets, the finish seems pretty decent, charging the bolt isn't exactly smooth but its far from gritty.

I am going to try it with some 1oz 1145fps #7 loads tomorrow and see how they cycle, the 1200fps loads ran fine but the ejection was not exactly energetic.
