Hello All, My question is for anyone using the perforated style Secure It Agile gun cabinets or anything similar. My question revolves around humidity control. Obviously a more traditional safe is easier to control the humidity simply due to the lower airflow and exchange. Can you still employ golden rods/ desiccant to control the humidity within the cabinet? Is there no point and try to control the entire room? That seems a lot more daunting. Thanks for everyone's insight. |
Probably would work to some extent, but wouldn't be very efficient. You could seal the back and the open bolt holes I suppose. I just do my best to keep the entire house's humidity in a decent zone, including in the winter. I also have a hygrometer mounted next to my cabinets to ensure the humidity is good in that spot. I'm in the habit of looking at it when I walk by. |

You could still install a golden rod if you felt it necessary. Cut a hole in the cabinet to fit the cord/plug, or cut the cord, drill a smaller hole (add grommet) and feed cord through the hole and reassemble. I have a few of the Agile's. They are easy to stuff in a closet which hide better than a traditional safe. |

Assembly by one person takes 30-60 mins, and then you can bolt it to the wall, floor, and/or another agile cabinet. And I love the grid system. It accommodates access and storage of rifles with large optics and pistol grips without needing to move anything else in the safe. It still bugs me that a shotgun I have used for clays and hunting for 25 years has only one prominent scratch, and that didn't happen in the field. It happened when I was trying to get something else near it out of another storage container. That's not an issue with these cabinets. But no, they are not incredibly robust. For me, that's not a huge issue based on my perceived risk and the number of other security safeguards that would need to by bypassed for you to be standing in this spot. Suffice to say I believe in defense in depth.   In other environments, or with higher value items, you could certainly justify spending ten times more on an actual UL-rated safe. If you like the idea of the Agile cabinet but want a higher level of security and don't mind something that weighs more and does not disassemble, check out their Anwser cabinets They had a crazy deal on them last week. |
