How do they sound side by side - any shooting impression, thoughts, likes / dislikes? I have not had the chance to take both to the range for a side by side comparison in regards to supression. I have only had both out to 300 yds so far. I am very impressed with how soft the EMC shoots both suppressed and unsuppressed and absolutely love the cheek weld that can be aquired with any Magpul ACS/STR. As for the MK11, I am very anxious to stretch her out. I am going to hook up with EAB in the near future to hopefully push lead between 800-1000 yds. I am not completely satisfied with the cheek weld on the M110 stock, which is why most M110's in the field have been customized with foam from a ISO pad/form wrap. However it completes the clone spec of the USMC M110 REPR and I think I can look past that little issue.  Keep me posted if your link up with EAB and I may just try to make that range session.. |

The lines people are drawing in the sand over these two optics is funny. Not saying that's what you're doing, just that this conversation is reminding me of it. I have a co-worker who nearly laughs at the idea of the 1-8 and explains how the 1-6 is soooooo much better. I was telling this one guy that I wasnt sure which between the two I'd get and he laughed at me for even considering the 1-6, and that I NEEDED the 1-8 for the ECC.
It's ridiculous. Especially when you consider that none of these people have done more than look through the optics a couple times and MAYBE, maybe pulled the trigger a few times. If they've even seen them at all. |

Honestly my own grief with the 1-6 is the fact they won't do it in a Horus or similar Mil Grid reticle.
I'm willing to deal with the CMR-W reticle in a 5.56mm gun, and Jim Smith (who designed it) has a very solid background, but its not a precision reticle –– its definitively a better optic IMHO on a 14.5-16" 5.56mm gun, and depending on your primary use/desires it will be a 6 of 1, half dozen of another on the 762 gun. I prefer the CQBSS for the 16" .308, but unless your looking at doing a lot of 400+ shooting, the 1-6 is a great option, and faster in close. Clearly in true ARF.COM fashion you need both

You bring up a good point. I am not one who thinks there is one perfect solution by any means, only some that are better suited to a task than others. There are a lot of great optics out and coming out right now which all serve a great purpose. I think more people need to evaluate their own needs and determin whats best for them - as there is no one size fits all and not get wrapped around the axel about what they've heard/ seen, etc. For my situation, I look at it as this: I currently have a Swarovski z6i w/ BRT on my EMC. Great optic, I love it for what it does, great glass, it's light weight, good illumination and good reticle out to about 600m. For most people, I would guess this optic would do fine - along with the other 1-6 offerings, like the Leupold MK6, the Vortex and the one I'm about to test, Kahles 1-6. The biggest limitation on this optic is the reticle. I like how it is a mil grid and not a BDC, but I run out of hold overs on it out to 600m. Now this optic will evetually find a home on my 16" 5.56 gun - and it will fill that role perfectly. I like to shoot my EMC from CQB out to 800 and occasionally 1000 yards. I do it frequently enough that changing optics is a royal pain, and most of the current 1-6 offerings will not fufill this role adequately enough. The MK6 looked promising, but as Kevin said, without a Horus or other mil reticle, I do not care for a BDC for precision; no matter how well they were developed, I will spend too much time figuring out the variations than if it were just a mil grid, tree, etc. Now that being said, maybe my circumstances are different than most, and those who only shoot their guns from CQB to say 400 or 600m, an optic like the CQBSS is probably overkill, in both expense and in weight. For those who will only use a gun from the bench or for precision woud be better served with a higher end scope - like the 3-18x44 or the HDMR, where the expense and low end of the CQBSS is wasted. Personally, I think the CQBSS is the only optic that really takes advantages of what modern 16" 308 guns can do. It took me a while to realize I wanted one, as I've used my 1-6 pretty effectively. Eventually it just became to much of a pain to switch optics or combo dialing AND holdovers to shoot distance. I pretty much shoot my EMC from CQB-300m AND 600-1000m at least once a month. |
Can't speak highly enough of this gun. took it on a bear hunt in WY, the thing got trashed in the mud,crud slime and grime, but functioned flawlessly when it came time to take a shot. Job well Done from the folks at KAC. I think I have about 5000 rounds through it and its still sub MOA.

Sounds like the majority will be running SR25's. I'd like to put together a matrix of what gun/scope/accessories are present, mostly to see what works and what doesn't. And if something has an issue, to track it. |

Just a couple of pics. I know this is just a plain jane EMC to most of you, but it is special to me because the UPS man brought it right to my doorstep last night. RSR was down to just a couple of these as "closeouts" and I figured the window to get a brand new one (never sold at retail) was just about closed.
The rifle feels lighter than I anticipated and very well-balanced. It probably sounds kind of corny, but I can just feel the quality of this rifle when I'm handling it. I almost purchased a Colt LE901 instead but got to thinking, hey, I'm 59, not getting any younger and if I get the EMC it will be the cornerstone of my collection. Needless to say, I don't regret my decision one bit. I'm going to top it off with a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 and think it will be a great set-up for me.
