| This is a bit of a random question. I’m wanting to install a VLTOR A5 buffer system on my SR-15. Anyone know how the specs for torquing KAC’s castle nut and anything else they do to secure it to the buffer tube? I want to avoid staking it just because I’m OCD and don’t think it looks as clean. |

I’ve never had a castle nut back off by tightening as hard as I could and calling it good. I had one that I was kinda worried about coming loose and put some blue loctite on and many many belts of ammo in full auto and probably 15k rounds has never came loose. So unless someone has a legit reason as to why blue loctite is a no go, just slap that on and crank it as hard as you can before you think you’ll break it lol. |

It might be internally identical, but I would not want to find out that it wasn't and not have enough room for BHO. I know someone tried using a LMT tube at some point and had to remove some of the rubber bumper on the buffer to allow for sufficient travel. I had an A5 tube on an upper I put together using a barrel and bolt group from Geno years ago. It barely moved. |

I don't know what the internal length of the A5 is, but it is close to the SR-25 receiver extension. I’ve been using my mod 2 with a non KAC lower with a5 system and it’s the flattest shooting AR I’ve ever handled. "Smooth" and "flat shooting" are really easy to achieve, but in most cases it sacrifices reliability. With an A5 on an SR-15 it can a little bit too much of a good thing depending on ammo, environment, and angle. The guns are built to function reliably with good ammo anywhere on the planet that a human can survive. Changing things changes the performance envelope. If you're happy with that, great, but we're trying to hold a very fine balance of shootability and dependability. |
