Fingers crossed. Hoping for original retro form factor, chf barrel. They could easily hit the 922r parts count with fcg, grip and US-made magazines. Bonus points if the safety looked the same but was “F” at 90 degrees instead of 180… and if it could accept FRTs. Ok a man can dream… |

https://www.reddit.com/r/Firearms/comments/1qjbfnf/usmade_daewoo_k2_take_2_when_is_the_us_version/ Last year SNT Motiv, the Korean conglomerate that absorbed Daewoo decades ago, was at SHOT show and made waves by stating that they were standing up a manufacturing facility in Nevada to manufacture the Daewoo K2 in the US with a release date sometime in 2025. This year SNT Motiv is back and according to their staff they are planning to start selling the US-made K2 this summer. They had a US-made K2 at the booth. What was really interesting was at the booth they had both South Korean full-auto K2s and Semi-auto K2s that had US-manufacturing marks and super-low serial numbers (the one I examined was US000007), so you could check out the differences. The US-manufactured K2s definitely had a smoother action, surprisingly smooth actually, versus the Korean-manufactured full-auto K2s. The US-manufactured K2 was marked "SNT Defense LLC Las Vegas, NV" |

It was designed by Daewoo and was the standard service rifle of the South Korean Military since the mid 80’s. Semi-auto civilian versions were imported into the U.S. in the late 80’s under various names. K1/K2, AR100/AR100C, MAX-1/MAX-2. The 1989 import ban put a stop to the fun, although neutered ones were imported for a while as the DR200, and then dropped. |

Seems like its a typical big Korean company with many non-Korean natives in the loop. I would hope that they would be smart enough to hire some help to navigate some of the pitfalls and loopholes - like not aware of being able to import an SBR by making it legally a handgun (No US parts required, etc) that seems odd, but almost apt for a company that probably took sales people from radios into firearms |

Word from attendees/reps at SHOT is that the Korean government is not okay with sales of "non-sporting" military pattern rifles, even if they are made here domestically. So there are layers of delays/complications at work here. This might be deja vu for some other imported/foreign rifles that never made it past SHOT show or other announcements. |

I occasionally drive by the SNT Defense location here in Vegas just to see if it looks like anything is happening. The address for the business is an industrial equipment auction paddock with what looks like a smallish warehouse building. I have never seen anything that looks remotely firearms related going on. |

I said the exact same thing! I would think with the new COD Korean War 2 game rolling out with Deawoo guns in it - it would be a perfect time to launch as marketing is done with that! Alternatively they could license to another US company like PSA if too much domestic politics concerns exist. |

It seems like they were side-tracked by the US Tarriff changes which actually had the result of creating US manufacturing plants. As the parent company makes all kinds of component parts for a variety of industries, they had to re-tool their plan around all that - which clearly took time and planning. It wasn't about importing a kit and adding a few US parts anymore - it was about making a portfolio of thousands of parts in the US from scratch for a variety of industries. Add to it the Korean government's dislike for defense technologies exported it was epoxy thrown into the gear-works of the original plan. While this has a positive effect on domestic production, it won't be made at Korean wages and the price will inevitably go up. They had to choose a location where logistics, tax breaks and skilled workforce that also has a lower wage bedroom community. Vegas wasn't going to cut it for that. It might be year+ before we see a product is a hunch. |

When you account for that, and consider that these might sell 10,000-20,000 over a number of years the cost per rifle is going to be high. Anyone hoping for $1300-1500 is likely going to be disappointed. Maybe if they were built off of Korean equipment, recreating that all stateside? Not going to be cheap. |
