With shot going on I figured i'd see if there was anything new announced and low and behold there are 4 sku's for factory SBRs Gen 2 patrol in 338 arc 10/22 takedown lite non takedown 10/22 PC carbine |
| I like the 10/22 non takedown. Curious on the logistics of buying a SBR from a LGS. Do you purchase, complete a background check and does the LGS keep the SBR until your ATF paperwork is approved? Or can you take possession right away but not use until approved? If the LGS keeps until approved, would the LGS require the SBR to be serialized before the customer can take it? |

| I’ve been wanting to do that 10/22 TD Lite as an SBR for several years. Would make a great plinker, add a dot and suppressor and might be a good game getter or to use during a time of unrest in the world. Think I may just FO when it’s in stock. |

The $200 tax stamp went down to $0, So Ruger figures they can sell a bunch now and make some money. The process for a SBR is the same as a suppressor. |

While it's nice that they are offering a factory option so you don't have to engrave afterwards. But these are kind of boring. You could already very easily convert a 10/22 Charger to a SBR, I already have one. Same with the PCC and Scout (just chop & thread). The Mini-14 is the platform that is harder to do outside the factory. It's a little more tricky to remove the barrel to thread properly. A factory SBR AC556 clone in a Samson sider folder is something I could see selling. I bought an older Mini-14 with a Ramline wood side folder & Aimpoint Electronic retro red dot to do a SBR build on. But from looking around, it's nearly $300 for a chop and thread, if they pull the barrel. So I'll probably just to a chop & pin/weld to get it to 16" with a Choate M14 flash hider. The chop/thread job is about 50% of what I paid for the gun and it's really just a toy. I have a bunch of SBR & pistol to run suppressed, so I don't need the threads. |

The gun comes from the manufacturer with a serial number. If you mean the SBR engraving that gets talked about a lot, that only applies if you file a Form 1 to "make" an SBR. With a factory SBR, the maker and manufacturer are the same thing so no extra engraving is required. |
