| At first I thought it was my handloads but factory does it too. Sometimes you have to really send the bolt forward pretty hard. Sometimes the bolt get stuck forward. Really dont want the hassle of sending it back if there is a easy fix out there. Any ideas what could be doing it? 3 brands of factory as well as handloads |

On my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle (I know, different action, but read on), the bolt would stick if the bolt handle was pushed forward with any amount of upward pressure on the bolt handle. Worked fine when pushing forward straight and level, or even some down force on the bolt handle. Problem was that the rear of the bolt-bridge on the receiver was cut very sharp, and ought to have been chamfered to prevent the bolt from catching on it. Fix was to use a small half-round jeweler's file to "break" the sharp edge and taper it forwards a little. A little sanding with appropriate fine sandpaper, and a little gun blue, and the bolt worked perfectly thereafter. If you have a similar problem, consider the above. It's a lot faster (and easier) than the JB bore paste method posted above--which also works. |
