| Has anyone matched an American Ranch with a Primary Arms prism scope? I have my RAR in a Magpul Hunter stock, and with a Trijicon 1x4, bipod, and suppressor it's coming in at around 10.5 lbs unloaded. I use the rifle for hunting FL white tail and just general shooting. I was thinking about using a PA 3x to cut the optic weight in half since my property is wooded and most shots are within 65 yards. Im wondering how the eye relief and height over bore work out with the pair. |
What a coincidence! I tried putting an extra PA 3x on a RAR in 350 Legend this morning. The height isn't an issue, because you can add or remove risers, just like an RDS. Eye relief is a big issue and I'm not sure there's anyway to make it work, aside from some jumble of rails hanging off the rear . I tried using the factory cantilever and mounted it as far back and possible and there was no way you could get your face that far forward in any sort of comfort. I, like you, believe the 3x PA prism would be ideal for close to medium deer and hogs. I also need something high enough over a can's height, so was excited with the prism as an option. Its a shame the eye relief doesn't seem to allow it. The new 1x is supposed to have almost unlimited eye relief, so that's an option if you don't need magnification. My old eyes really appreciate some magnification though, so I'll give the 3x some more effort. I'll report back if I figure something out, but don't get your hopes up. If that doesn't work, then ill likely go with a PA LVPO of some sort. 1x-4x with some illumination is all I need, so an after Christmas sale may be in my future! |

Attached File it's not bad. The eye relief on the magnified versions is limited so if you have a youth stock or you're willing to chop up a Boyd's stock, it'd probably be helpful It was fine, once I cut about 1.5" off the stock |
| Papposilenis, I was actually looking for the whatever the original page was that you posted this picture on a long time ago. I specifically remembered your rifle and how badass it looked. How is the height? Are you able to cheek weld? Or is it kinda in-between cheek and chin? |

That's kinda what I was thinking would be the issue. The Magpul stock is adjustable but I don't want a tiny LOP and a struggle to use the optic. I'm trying to keep the weight down so I'm trying to avoid the LPVO. |

I tried one of the new PA "unlimited eye relief" prisms on an M1A with a Swan mount and while it does rise above the rear iron sight a little, it's not bad. Not a cheek weld, but close. Best option I've found for a light weight optic on the M1a. Won't allow use of the irons, but I'm going to replace the factory mount with a QD mount and run that. I really like those PA prisms, they're about fail proof unless you smash the thing to death. |

There's a company called Dove Custom Guns, he makes a "Scout rail" for the Rugers that attaches to the forward receiver ring screws and the rear sight dovetail, if yours has one, and would drop the Prism sight down a lot. If you run the long eye relief prism, it would probably work very well. He also offers 'smith work if yours doesn't have the dovetail for mounting and does very reasonable work. |

GLX2 with cantilever might be a better option for eye relief. Also the weaver brand replacement rail has a cantilevered rail section. You can mount it reversed to get another inch further back. Attached File Something I was screwing with. You can definitely get the prism further back this way. |

I put a trij 1-4 on the RAR, but I was wanting to keep the Savage 110 Scout light weight. I'm thinking the 1x on qd mount so I can use irons. |
