Is there any benefit - or drawback - to storing a rifle muzzle-down versus muzzle-up? All the safes I’ve ever seen are kind of designed to drive the user toward muzzle-up, but is that “the best way”? If so, why? I’m interested in hearing from folks who have experience storing a variety of rifle (and shotgun) types. Thanks in advance! |

I don't know if this reply answers your concerns but I've found that by storing some of my long guns muzzle down some muzzle up using rifle rods, has allowed me to increase the storage capabilities in my three safes. There is an excellent thread on rifle rods in this forum. Gary |

It does help. One thing I think contributes to “everything goes butt-down” is that rifles tend to be heavier toward the butt, so they’re more stable standing/leaning that way. I don’t know if this is “helpful” in storage or not. To clarify, by “storage” I’m not talking about stashing something away for years, just securely storing rifles in a safe. |
