Got a hell of a deal on some firearms yesterday. Included was this Remington Nylon 66. It's in really great condition. Barrel code has it as a Dec 68 production rifle and there is no serial number anywhere on the rifle. I've always wanted one for my .22LR rifle collection but the going prices were too much for me to pay. This one I snagged for $75.00.

I love mine. Given to me by my wife's grandfather. He shot squirrels off the bird feeder, IN THE CITY with it for years. What a great guy. This may be a cardinal sin, but I had a friend thread it and now run it suppressed. So much fun. What a fine rifle. I didn't know that you can't take them apart, so I did......ignorance is bliss I guess. It hadn't been used for 20 years or more when I got it so I thought a full strip and clean would be the way to go. Don't do it. It's the world's worst bar puzzle. I figured it out, it took ages, and I don't think I could do it again. Just keep it clean and enjoy it. Attached File |

I inherited the parts of several Nylon 66s when my dad died. And one paper version of an armorer’s manual for assembly/disassembly. He used to wander gun shows & garage sales for gun parts. I don’t think any receiver had a serial #, but one had some vibrating pen ID #s which were all the rage around 1970. I assembled 4 & still have parts in bags. It’s not as complicated as some make it, but be aware it’s 100% finesse & not torque wrench 30-80 foot-lbs, for sure! It’s more like a Ruger Mk 1 or 2 where you have to pay attention to detail and use finesse, not force. It’s actually a quite clever mechanism & the cartridge lift/feed is the tricky part for me. If you can detail strip a real, pre-1980 S&W, Marlin rifle, etc IME it’s not that complicated. I do admit that I have lost many, many small parts in my basement & some AR/AK-Franken GlockSigRem vacuum light may assemble itself one day or possibly some other household object. So, be sure you have spare parts since some things bounce into another dimension, like Sasquatch or socks in the dryer. YMMV.  Remington Nylon 66 Assembly This gent does a good job in spite of saying he’s struggling. He has the challenge of Stephen Spielberg, meaning he’s being challenged because he does a good job of showing things in the video vs just gunsmithing. It’s less complicated when you aren’t making a video & can invert the stock as needed. So, don’t be intimidated by rumors. An AR lower has tricks the first time, just like a Glock. |
| I have 2 of them (actually one is a C-10). Taking them apart and back together is no more of an issue than most other rifles - at least I didn't have any problems. (I was afraid to touch it at first, due to all the advice on the inet). The tube fed N66 I bought back in the late 60's early 70's. The C-10 I get at a funshow a couple years ago for $300 - but like most mag fed versions, it was a jamomatic, until I found the problem and fixed it - now I haven't had 1 jam since... they are a great little 22, now if I can just find a lever and a bolt version... |

there's a weird synchronicity in the world. I just took a newb shooting with mine last week. She is my friends daughter and had no experience shooting at all (guessing about 25 yo). I drew her a picture of what her sight picture should look like and she got it immediately. Afterward she wanted to buy it! She absolutely loved shooting it. Me too, by the way. it's one of the smoothest guns i own. I bought it new in 1977. |

| Years ago a local guy died and his daughters had me look at his guns. There was a .22 there with a green stock I didn't recognize. Come to find out is was a nylon .22. I ended up with a snake charmer and a mossber pistol grip 20 gauge but I should have bought them all. |

I guess I get the whole nostalgia thing . Several guys at my club really like them but they never inspired any interest . I never owned one and nobody I knew had one . God only knows I have and lust over any number of old weird designs but I could hardly care less. Hope the OP has fun with his new/old toy . |

It was no AR but not too bad when following instructions from YT. I'm sure it was the first time apart since being assembled at the factory and my son may possibly do it again when he passes it down. |

Past that, I have ''enough'' .22 rifles. |
