I am moving into a new safe so got out some older rifles from the rear. This 700s barrel stamp is PE 72, PE is 1984 but what is the 72 mean? My father gave me the rifle in mid 80s so it has sentimental value. I shot a handful of rounds through it when I got it, been in the safe ever since. I cleaned and oiled it over the years and it is like new. It still has the Walker trigger, not going to change it. The scope is Tasco 3-9x40 and I was wondering if Remington sold rifle with scope or it was added by the dealer or possibly my father. I think they came with an adjustable leather sling? Are OEM slings hard to find? Thanks for your help!  " /> " />

I saw many of those at the gunshows in the 80s. Bought for hunting at the kmart, and included an installed tasco (or bushnell, kassnar, parker-hale, or no-name fixed) scope. These got traded for a 4” smith 357 or maybe a decent colt 1911. Dad traded for a lot of those in the days. Thats a great looking rifle! |

Sweet. I've got an early 80s adl, it was a no shit 1" 5 shot rifle w/3x9 redfield at 100yrds when I did my part. Been shot so much groups started getting bigger & bigger. the worn barrel does approx 2.75+" nowadays, it's only gtg for deer hunting in the brush now. |

Thanks for the insight. I found a sling for it. I purchased a Marlin 30-30 at Kmart, don't think there was any paperwork involved. The Marlin is what I took "hunting" in the Everglades. Either walked the dry land or take a ride on a noisy contraption called a swamp buggy. The buggy usually broke down far enough in to make walking out a pain. Never spotted a deer or hog, plenty of snakes though. That was before the pythons came around. Another one from the back of the safe. Winchester 250 lever 22. Dad gave me the rifle about 1965 and I shot thousands rounds through it. Weaver scope.  " />

At that time Remington build quality was still quite good. Keep it not only for its sentimental value, but also because it is likely a good shooter. Maybe upgrade the scope. Look at that Tasco, first to see if it says "Made in Japan". The early ones were Japanese and are actually quite good. Otherwise, maybe upgrade to Leupold or Burris or similar. Note: the barrel may seem like it is free floated, but it has an intentional upward pressure point up close to the front of the barrel channel. Unless you bed the action, do not remove that pressure point. It really helps accuracy. |

I had a late 80s ADL in 22-250 that shot little clovers with regular Winchester 55gr Spires, had a lower end optic on it to boot, unfortunately I lost that rifle when my house was broken into. |

| Remington codes are baffling , mainly because they recycled the same codes for different firearms over generations to decipher you need a die hard Remington guy , if there isnt one here maybe a Remington forum ,the only good thing that came out of Cerberus ownership was they squashed the old system |
| I’ve been through a bunch of Remingtons over the years. None ever came with a sling. Just my experience. Still one of the best actions out there. Hated the safety though. |

| love my 2010 Rem 700 in .243 , bought cheap at WalMart as a ADL , about 2 years ago i found out it fell in the questionable trigger range so i put a nice drop in in it , then got a hair up my butt and converted to a BDL with detachable mags , i really love it now |

This is the Custom Shop version with blueprinted and trued action, air guaged custom profile barrel, McMillan stock. The 24" barrel has no Remington roll marks, but was probably made in house. With handloads it is in the 1/2 or 3/4 MOA range. 280 Remington, my favorite hunting caliber, is woefully neglected. I have owned three, but settled on this. If you load it to .270 chamber pressure rather than the weak SAAMI pressures Remington submitted it is actually only 50-75 fps behind the 280 AI.  |

Long gone girlfriend bought me a 700 RS for Xmas in the late 80's. Sep 87 made and came with the Rynite (sp?) stock in .30-06. First got to hunt with it in Zimbabwe in the early 90's and it did the job well with 180gr Nosler Partitions. The Burris Mini-4x finally died after 30 years and one return to Burris. It has been a great hunting rifle with nearly 40 years of use. |

I have two of them, I cannot recall which guns they came with other than at least one 1187 and maybe the other was from an 870. I think I have seen some come with the same sling in camo. Late 90’s to maybe the first decade through 2000. I think more on it and Iirc one came with the 870 cantilever slug gun. I traded the gun but the sling is in my box o slings, holsters and stuff. The other is folded up and tucked in my steel shot shell blind bag. |

Hated the safety though. Many did come with swivel posts for use with Michaels-style QD sling swivels. Ordinary carry straps are pretty useless anyway. I always converted military leather 1905 type slings to the Whelen sling, or used Brownells Latigo leather. Both can be set up quickly as a real shooting sling. |
