How many rounds do you have through the Glock with the rattlecan job.  How is it holding up to heat and holster wear. I'm a fan.

Thats a few hundred rounds picture .. not alot of holster use.. as for heat I am not sure seems fine.  But its a very light coat of paint, just a mist.. and if it starts to wear alot I will just clean it off and re paint it again if I want.  So I say DO IT

Rustoleum Appliace Epoxy on SD9VE slide, three coats, final one dusted from 20"+ to lower the sheen.  Baked in toaster oven @ 375* for 1 hour.  Looks good to me.  AK guys have been using this formula for years with excellent results and durability.

wow there's some serious talent on this board.  Wish I had more time to go through all the photos (in time I guess).
I've been thinking I'd like to paint mine however it's my first AR and first build so it's kind of like getting a new car or motorcycle where you're not sure whether you want to put anything on it for fear of not doing it justice and making a "permanent" screwup.  I know with camo, if you mess up, you can repaint if need be but I'd rather just do it right the first time.  :)
camo'd my paintball marker with a semi-tiger stripe in woodland colors and turned out fine but it was much smaller and less expensive than the rifle.
one of these days I'll bite the bullet.

What's the consensus when using rattle cans? (I have no airbrush and am not up to paying someone)
I see Krylon and rustoleum which is my preferences as well, but how to make the paint remain mostly durable?
I clear coated my paintball marker and over 3 years there are parts that are rubbing off still.  No flaking, just rubbing off.

Thanks! It was fun. I took photos of each step on that one for a how-to article. It was a bit of masking and template work, but I measured, designed, and cut vinyl templates for a lot of it, so I can reproduce the templates if I ever need. Several coats, but no nearly so much work as the top rifle here:

Another recent one:

We have been doing intentionally distressed finishes for many years. One of the first we did was a rifle with a plastic stock, and the owner wanted it too look like a battered fiberglass stock, so we actually created sections of fiberglass cloth texture on the surface of the stock like what you will see when a fiberglass stock gets chipped and worn. The best thing about finishes like this is no matter how hard you use the rifle, you can't mess up the finish.

I didnt like the brown wood and I liked the grey Marlin from JW3 so I had the local custom shop strip the rifle, add the stain, and duracoat the rest.
