Now the tip of your firing pin has eroded from an outtie into an innie. The more primers get pierced, the more it will pierce because the little eroded cup on the tip of your firing pin isn't supporting the primer cup. No fix for it except to get a new firing pin and back off your loads. Or that might not be it, but once you have seen primers primers pierce or almost pierced by a firing pin that has been eroded like that, you will recognize it in a heartbeat. Brett |
| Just beginning some load development with "air pulled" SS 109s. I had very similar results between IMR 4895 and H335, somewhat better with Varget - consistently 1.5 MOA or better across 5 rifles (3 Gas guns, 2 bolt actions). In each case the best accuracy (regardless of powder) developed in the range of 3075 +/- fps. All rifles were 1 in 8.5 or 1 in 9, 16"-20" barrels. I am planning to test all five rifles with IMI M855 as a control for velocity and accuracy. |
Wow, I have seen some posters in the past that have lurked and not posted for years but I think you have set the bar to the next level. 
To answer, I think you have a good powder chosen with CFE223 but I went with Ramshot Tac as CFE was new and unobtainium back when I worked up my load. I went from 24.0gr to 26.0gr of Tac and settled on 25.0gr as a close duplicate to the military load with acceptable accuracy. Which brings the point that the SS109 62gr bullets are, in my opinion, not very accurate when compared to other offerings from Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, etc. I was looking to match the military load for SHTF ammo and TAC got me where I wanted to be. |
