Does anyone have any real world velocity's from 30-30 out of a 16" barrel? Mostly looking for factory load data since i dont want to reload at this point. I need to be at 16" barrel since I will be suppressed and the whole point of the rifle is short and compact. |

I just had my 336 cut down to 16" and threaded. No factory numbers but some reloads came in at only 100fps below what the book said- 170 grain Speer 30 grains TAC- not max, according to Lyman. I got ~2000 fps vs 2100 I have a box of 150gr Rem Core Loks. Maybe I'll run a few over the chrono if no one else chimes in. FYI, 30-30 suppressed is good stuff. Subs are a blast, supers are pretty sweet. |

Can i ask you who did the work and were you happy with it? Thats exactly what i want to do. I inherited an older 20" Marlin 30-30. I wont ever get rid of it so i would like to make it what i will enjoy. If i enjoy it then i will use it and make good memories with it. I kind of hate to mess with a older Marlin but if i modify it then i will end up using it and enjoying it. My plan is to have it shortened and threaded to 16.5" or so. I will also pivk up some used wood for it and shorten the LOP since i am really short. I know people like irons but my old eyes wont play. I have a simple Leupold 1-4 for it. I have been thinking about using a ECCO 5 Ti supressor. Supper light and small titanium can. I am trying to see if this can compete with a 14.5 or 16" Grendel under 200 yards for medium game like deer and hogs.i think the Grendel is better but the 30-30 has some nostalgia which atthe end of the day is enjoyable to me. |

The work was done locally and no, I'm not that happy with it. He only threaded the barrel .500" instead of the .600" I asked for and even though I didn't need it (running red dot) he drilled the holes for the front sight ramp off TDC. However, the threads are concentric and four different cans line up just fine. I should have pulled the barrel and sent it to ADCO. I did do the magazine work myself. I guess it depends on who you inherited the gun from and how sentimental you are but personally, I'd go with your thinking above. Modify it and enjoy the heck out of it. 30-30 suppressed really is fun. You will be reloading soon enough, LOL. I'm loading 150 grain plated subs for about $0.30 per round. Full power for twice that? Funny you mention ECCO. I am waiting for the 7" Furtivus to come in stock. As soon as it does, I'm buying one. The can I'm using on the rifle now is an ECCO F1 recore- 5.5" long x 1.5" OD with 5 baffles inside, so much less volume than the Five Ti. It sounds very good for the size. I also have a 9mm TLX and subs sound very good though it too. I haven't shot it with supers yet.
