Yesterday I tried out some 124gr RMR Nukes in 9mm. I noticed that the base of the bullet is covered in copper. It had a neat effect with the sun behind me, where the bullet looked kind of like a tracer or a spark flying at the target. I wonder about the construction of the bullet, considering that there's copper at the base like I've seen with plated bullets. Are these plated, and if so, does that mean that they are bonded? Does anyone know how they perform in ballistic tests, through barriers and the denim test? |

Nukes are a hollow point bullet so they do not have an open base as seen in full metal jacket bullets. Apparently, FMJ is what you are used to seeing. They are a quality bullet. Expansion and terminal ballistics are favorable and have been reported in other threads. Of course, like all hollow point designs, optimal performance is achieved at the proper velocities. Be sure you reload them with due consideration of that. |

I just emailed them right after I posted while I was still thinking about it this time I'll post here, if I hear from them before this thread dies out. |

Cool. Hopefully this doesn't die out! I'm currently working on a load for these with HS-6. I loaded up 10 rounds over 6.5gr at 1.06 oal and tested them. Either the lighting that day was messing with my chrono or it needed a fresh battery. 10 shots registered, but 4 were WAY off. If I eliminate those, the other 6 averaged 1,176 FPS from my CZ P-10C at about 15 feet from the muzzle. I think I'm going to dial it back a little to try to get to about 1,100 FPS. These will also be shot from a P-10F and Glock 43X. Hoping to average 1,050-1,150 FPS across the barrel lengths. I've got Sport Pistol and N320 I can try as well. |

I've loaded mine to 1.06 OAL. The starting load with sport pistol is giving my +p velocity, which I believe is due to the short OAL. The reason I'm loading them short is a CZ. The reason I'm loading to +p velocity is that gets me 1050fps at 15 ft from a shield. Is there a concern with feeding reliability when going this short? |

Cycle dummy rounds, to find out what works for you. Myself, I'm at 1.10, to allow trouble free chambering in my CZ 85. This length works fine in 2 other 9mm pistols, and several AR9's. |

Details on this load? I mentioned I was using HS-6, but that was originally intended for pulled HST's. Now that I'm focused on nukes, I mostly have Sport Pistol and N320. I shot a lot of Sport Pistol at 3.9gr under a Berry's 124 round nose. Nice and light recoil but not sure what the velocity is. I was thinking about trying 4.2-4.3gr of SP under the Nuke. |

They worked first time and every time. There really and truly is only one way to know if your loads are reliable. You have to use them in your firearm, a LOT of them. Only then will you know whether they are reliable. The up side of that seemingly bad news is that you get to do a LOT of shooting! |

I was thinking about trying 4.2-4.3gr of SP under the Nuke. That seems like a good starting point, depending on your OAL. Here's the data from Alliant that I referenced, which only gave me some idea since I am loading to a much shorter OAL:
So I loaded 4.4gr SP at 1.06, and here's what I got: Beretta 92x Performance: 1131fps @15ft, 100 degrees f Shield+: 1047fps @15ft, 100 degrees f So, in the Beretta, I'm over the 1100 fps that RMR has tested in gel, but the 92x performance has a 4.9 inch barrel, and I'm not going to carry it. The shield+ looks like it's about right. As an aside, I do like sport pistol, it seems to meter well on a 650, and is a lot cleaner than what I'm used to (titegroup). |

It barely passes a plunk and spin test in my CZ P10F. I'm thinking about just loading specific ammo for the CZ in the future. There's an enormous difference between the CZ and other pistols. The only other gun I have that is close is the PSA. Also the CZ and PSA have the least smooth feeding of my guns, but are still surprisingly reliable. Glock, Smith, and Beretta all have very smooth feeding and will accept much longer cartridges, and I consider them to be VERY reliable. |

I sent the barrel to Patriot Defense and had the chamber lengthened so that I could load the same length for all my 9mm pistols. Quick turnaround and definitely worth the $60. Patriot Defense |

Shot about 500 doing work ups and I settled on 5.7gr Winchester Autocomp under the 124gr Nuke loaded to 1.075” and averages about 1230fps from my G17s, Speer and Win cases show no difference. Work this data up of course if you choose to pursue it. |
| Since they were designed to open up at a lower velocity, it would be interesting to shoot them through leather or denim material before catching the projectile in a water jug or ballistic gel... just to see how much depth of penetration is affected. |
