I had not had my M1 Super 90 out since I got an M4 a couple years ago. It’s a 20” cylinder bore with GRS. It was my deer gun with slugs for about 25-years. That's odd. I was participating in a 2 day shotgun class, and the subject of flite control buckshot came up. I would frequently tip my instructor with ammo, and had given him some flite control buckshot before the class. He wanted to demonstrate how it patterned. Loaded it in his 870 and shot those exact same targets at 20 yards. One big hole. Everyone in the class tried it. 7-8 different shotguns. Mostly Mossberg 500 and 590s, Remington 870s, and I was running a Mossberg 930. All put the buckshot in a single hole. I know the range was 20 yards because: 1. We were on a 25 yard indoor range. 2. Several of us walked it off to confirm. The one difference is that we were using 8 pellet shells. OO buck. |

Just wanted to see if this flight control had any merit. Compared to the non-FC (Rio, Win. Sellier and Bellot), the FC was significantly tighter. We setup for pistols and SG drills and didn't plan to do a proper comparison. Also didn't bring any 9 pellet FC... |

I wish I had taken pictures, but I was playing with a High Standard riot gun that I just bought at the gun show. I tried some nine pellet Flite Control at 25 yards and it patterned pretty well. Then I tried some of that military grade buck in the plain brown boxes and it didn't pattern all that much different. I'm looking for some low recoil ammo for my wife, so maybe I'll pattern it again and take some pictures. |

I got a new 590A1 a couple of weeks ago, if I get over this cold, I'll take my 16 year old son out and let him break it in. I'm more interested in the extreme outer effective range of buckshot. I had to spend a few nights at my business again this year. Long story, it's a big place. I slept with my Mossy 500 next to me in one of the bigger buildings. Didn't think about it till I brought my laser in a few days later - 50 yards - wall to wall in there. 65 yards diagonal. We'll throw some patterns at 50, one at 65 just for grins. We'll bounce a few slugs at 100 too just to see what that's like. |

Ran some pattern tests through several shotguns the other day. Stayed at 10 yards, (household defense range). Have a range of buckshot from Federal Flight Control 8 pellet,to random auction boxes of buckshot. Remington 9 pellet and S&B 12 pellet we're on target but the pattern was pretty wide, Winchester was sending fliers off the target. With the Flight Control it was just barely leaving the wad at 10 yards across a wide variety of shotguns, (870 20", a buddies 14" 870SBS, a Stoeger 3000 with 24" barrel, Mossberg 590 with a 20" barrel). When I got back home I reconfigured all of our defense shotgun cards over to flight control. I'll hang onto the other buckshot for training ammo. Semper Fi |

That 9th pellet can really get away from the group even in flight control. In some shotguns it not only get a flier but it boogers up the other 8 to some extent. Even in flight control. I have a Stoeger 2000 that hates the 9 buckshot load like 15 inches at 20. Yet its damn near one hole at 35 yards with the 8 pellet load. You about half in one hole then 3 or 4 -2 inches away. That with the IC choke. Cylinder is 3 or 4 inches bigger next one up is where did all my pellets go ? Every shotgun is different. |
