So I picked up some Indian Black Aluminum powder. It was shipped to me in a zip lock bag inside another zip lock bag. I want to store it in something a little tougher. I was thinking a mason jar. Either way, internet search has sent me down an AI overview rabbit hole that I have the world's most reactive and dangerous substance know to man. How do ya'll store your Aluminum powder? Containers? In the house? Near ammo? What safety precautions do you use when handling it? Also, what utensils and what not are used when mixing it with pyrodex? Thanks. |

Indian blackhead is good stuff. lol But it's safe to store in your house in a sealed container . You should keep it in the ziplock bags it came in away from any moisture or damp areas. It's not going to do anything bad unless you have it sitting in a bag of potassium perchlorate or chlorate and it mixes. Just keep it away from oxidizers,water or fire and sealed . You don't want to inhale alum power. It's a like tiny razor blades if you inhale it . I keep aluminum powder in the package it came in . Then put it in a ammo can with silica packs thrown in . It do anything next too ammo unless you have a fire next to an oxidizer. But totally safe to keep in your house . Don't use metal utensils to mix it with pyrodex or chlorates. But otherwise your good blackhead and super H aluminum powder is best . Hope that helps

Very cool. I'm thinking of finding an air tight Tupperware style box to store the bag in with some desiccant. So the desiccant can touch the bag the powder is in? For those that make the loose change rounds, can the aluminum powder be mixed with pyrodex and assembled with the firework fuze installed for storage? Or does this have to be a range mix setup? Can I use metal utensils to measure it? Do is measure it by weight or volume to the pyrodex for the loose change rounds? |
