I know very little about this end of the shooting sports. I would like to get an airgun that is as quiet and cheap as possible, yet still capable of sending a squirrel/rodent to the promised land at 20 yards. Does such a machine exist? I really don't want to go more than the $200-300 range on this, as I have other toys I'd like to buy. I'm sure the fine folks of arfcom will convince me otherwise and I'll end up with a $4k Anschutz or something, but for the sake of this discussion....cheaper is more gooder. A suppressed .22 is a no go. I definitely need to do more research, but I believe that integrally suppressed air rifles have been deemed safe enough for the citizens of this shitty state (NY) to possess. |

| The Storm rider is not too bad a choice for your stated budget and purpose. You will need a way to fill it, however. I suggest the Hill/Air Venturi hand pump to get started. The 200 BAR fill pressure and size of the gun's tank is conducive to hand pumping (unless you want to shoot more than 75 rounds a session). |

| What I use for what you stated isn't an airgun at all and I do own a number of them. The airguns are replicas of many of my actuals for some impromptu practice at home. Instead of using those for a clansdestine operation as what you're describing (nosey neighbors), I grab an old scoped cricket, .22 lr bolt that I bought my kids decades ago and use Aguila Super Colibri .22lr's. I have it set at 20 yards and can pretty much hit the head of a 3 penny nail with most shots. Extremely quite, not enough power to cycle an auto but can be used manually. When they are around, kinda limited, they run about $7.00/box of 50. Many of the other offers on subsonics like CCI quiets are anything but. |
| Crosman 362 with a Buck Rail suppressor. If you want to mount a scope, get the steel breech. Otherwise, get the suppressor with integral front sight. The hammer hitting the valve is louder than the report. The pellet hitting the critter is the loudest sound involved. I've used mine for rabbits, squirrels, and even one dumb young woodchuck. The gun is about $110, the steel breech is $45 if you are willing to install it yourself, and the suppressor was $20ish when I bought mine a couple years ago. |

I got a 2289 Drifter for my nephew, before I realized he couldnt pump it more than 4 time so got him a 2240XL instead. The 2289 is pretty quiet. Im not about to order a 3d printed .22 caliber suppressor though, because from a legal standpoint I dont see how it's not just a a suppressor. Unless it could somehow be permanently affixed to the pellet gun? |

| The Diana Chaser may be a good choice. It comes with a moderator and a pistol barrel. Mine is configured with the pistol barrel, modulator and 4x pistol scope. It will produce 1" groups or better @ 10 yards when using a rest. Should be powerful enough for squirrels, and is relatively quiet. Well within you budget, too. |
