Muzzle brakes are louder than flash suppressors and they don't reduce flash as well but if you're looking for keeping the muzzle down, it's the obvious choice.

I would especially hate to plug the barrel and then attempt to send a round through it. Dropping the muzzle to the ground is a habit that you must break. If you want to spray and pray, use the Krinkov. The M1A is way too nice of a battle implement for that.

Ron Smith told me of a DIY mod to the gas port that will allow some sub sonic ammo to cycle the
action, but I'm not going to perform the mod because I'm not going to shoot much sub sonic ammo.

I was shooting the video with my crappy camera I happened to have at the range. The gun sounds about equal to a .22 short with federal match ammo.
