I've created three new tracking threads:
1. Paper Form 1s 2. Paper Form 4s 3. EForm 1s They'll all be stickies in the General NFA Questions section. If EForm 4s become available again, I'll start a separate thread for that. I think this format ought to make it easier than having the F4 thread in Silencers, the F1 thread in SBRs, and another catch-all in Gen NFA...plus the multiple threads where people are cross-posting EForm approvals. I did not delete the old threads. I posted a link to this thread, locked them, then toggled them to not archive. What happens when I do that is they'll slow drift back to the last page of each section, but won't archive. You can find them if you need them. Basic rules for all of the tracking threads: 1. Please make sure you've chosen the correct thread to post in 2. Please provide all available info, such as any dates you know, individual vs entity, etc 3. If the information is not provided, there's no need to ask for it. Since there's often no rhyme or reason to the order of approvals, if somebody doesn't specify they filed as an individual...move on. 4. DO NOT post until approval is received. There are a lot of members that subscribe to the tracking threads, and it does no good if they're notified and all they learn is somebody submitted a form. 5. No unnecessary chatter. Ask a legit question, but don't calculated somebody's wait time, or post "mine's pending the same day, so hoping it's approved soon", or anything else that doesn't really add to the discussion. 6. If you want to go back and add info (maybe you posted when you found out your dealer received your F4, but didn't have the actual approval date), edit your post instead of posting again or quoting your post and adding the info. PLEASE police yourself in those threads by following the rules above. I really don't want to have to spend my time cleaning them up. If you've already posted in the other threads, and your approval was within the last week or so, you're welcome to add the info to the new thread. Details much older than that really don't matter. |

Why do we need a tracking thread for each submission type? The other one was fine, just add whether you efiled or paper and form 1 or form 4 
So I figured I'd answer it here. We already had three official tracking threads, and several others where people were attempting to turn them into tracking threads. The issue was the F4 thread was in Silencers and the F1 was in SBRs. So people were having to go into the "wrong" subforum to post timelines for other types of firearms. Now they're all in the same place. Nobody tracking paper form 4s wants to have to read through a dozen 12-day EForm approvals. And I've seen quite a few paper F1s getting approved 2-3 months before the average paper F4. So, in the current situation, F1/F4/EF1 are all seeing quite different approval times. As of now, we're not seeing much difference in individual vs entity. That's why there are different threads. Nobody wants to either read through, or get notifications if they subscribe, for a a bunch of approvals that have nothing to do with what they're waiting on. |

A majority of the questions about forms, trusts, etc fall into that category. The firearm specific forums are meant for technical questions...and tracking approvals isn't even remotely technical. Are there non-technical discussions in those forums? Absolutely...but they're usually specific to the firearm type in question. The section existed long before I joined up, and I don't see any reason for it to go away. I championed a reorganization in the last couple years and got SBS and AOW added. But I definitely think the General forum is useful. It seems you're thinking we should have even more tracking threads. At this point that would be three in every subforum except for M16 and MG, since you (unfortunately) can't Form 1 either of those. The reality is the type of firearm doesn't matter as far as approval times go, so a single one for each type of submission seems to me to be much more streamlined. ...just some of my thoughts. |

I like it. I felt with the old tracking threads, not everyone was clear on which was for Form 4s vs 1s. I was recently interested in watching the times for Form 4s, but felt it worth while to watch both threads. On a side note, is there any expectation that eForm 4s are coming any time soon? I'm interested in a couple more suppressors, but I'll wait if there's talk of that. |
