Well I ended up doing both of my AR's I think my 5.56 came out better, even though it was the first one I tried it on. My 6.8 did come out darker like I wanted it to though.

| Guys painting rifles with scopes; are you guys degreasing the scopes by just spraying them down with degreaser. Does the degreaser not get into the adjustment knobs and damage the internals of the scope. Or is there a certain way to degrease scope other than just spraying them. Thanks |

Thanks I don't degrease anything when I paint it unless it's really dirty, then it just gets wiped down with a cloth and some rubbing alcohol, which dries very quickly. |

Base was khaki, layed down the pinestraw and hit it with OD, brown, and shot some foliage in a couple spots. |
| Ok guys I think I'm going to take the plunge. I think I'm going th go with the netting and stripes and netting birddog went with. But let's say it didn't come out right or I need to take it off for some reason or another. What is an easy way to get crylon and rustoleum off... |

Honestly, just go lightly and use several very light coats on the base color and you'll be fine. |

Did my first camo job on my AR. Thought it came out ok for my first time. Used brake cleaner, rustoleum camo tan, OD and a little brown with passes from a heat gun in between all coats. Finished it all off with krylon matte clear coat which gave it a nice sheen without being too shiny. Let me know what you think.
Here's what my AR started life as.

Pic of my AK with wintercamo paintjob i did on it´s furniture couple of years ago. The base coat is semi-glossy pure white and i used spruce branches and matte black spray paint for making a somekind pattern.
Here is my birdkiller CZ 527 .223 with a bit similar paintjob on it´s stock. I´m thinking to repaint the whole gun before next hunting season. IMO that paintjob needs to be a bit darker that it currently is.

Okay I took a whack at this "painting" ordeal.
Here it is after drying Here it is with the cat being a badass. They blend together rather well. Ill have some field pics tomorrow.

My latest pinestraw effort. No Norrell's this time. SImply used Rustoleum dark taupe as a base and krylon OD and brown for camo. The pics don't really show it but the dark taupe has a bit of shine to it even though it was "satin". I've got some matte clear that I'm going to hit it with to take care of the shine. If not, I'll try dusting it with some ultra flat khaki.

So I am in the Texas hill country and would like to duracoat a rifle. How would this color combo work with the straw method for that neck of the woods :) coyote brown base Magpul FDE OD green tactical black Or should I throw in another green or a parker gray ? thanks |

Another one falls to the temptation of painting his own rifle:
$15 in paint, a can of brake cleaner, and a broom. 
I used Rustoleum Camo paints, Tan, Brown, Green, and little black. Looking at it right now I'm tempted to hit it with more green. I couldn't even do a paint by numbers, but this was even easier than it looked. It's nearly impossible to do it wrong. Now I'm tempted to find leaves and other vegetation to do a shotgun. |

He used Rustoleum too but it smells really funky when it gets hot

Funny you took a picture with your cat. We have a feral cat I feed outside with about the same coloring. He sneaks up on me all the time when I'm outside and I was thinking about doing a rifle with his colors and patterns since it seems to work so well for him!

Got bored this morning. Had a 10/22 in a tapco stock that I painted tan back during the winter. Decided to clean it and once I had the stock off I figured I'd do some pine needle work.   Edited: added newer pics. |
